Ideas for adding coloring on a Spikes Lower

I recently picked up a stripped Spikes Zombie lower, and love the look of the ones that have all the etchings painted in. I have been pondering how I might accomplish this. Any bright ideas? I was thinking of using model airplane paint. If I do that, and miss a little, will the model airplane thinner take off any of the finish on the lower?

You can also use Testor's enamel model paint...it's what I used, and haven't needed to do any touch ups at all.
