Ok, y'all can hate me, I'm a Kalifornication transplant as well.
I left after living there my entire life and serving in L/E in the central valley for 23 years. I tired of the gangs, violence, libtards and taxes. While Orygun property taxes are about the same, the No sales tax makes a big difference, Cali is now 10%. Also cost of living and DMV fees are much lower and no smog tax. My registration averaged over $1200 a year.
So you can spit, but I'll swim in your saliva to avoid living in that state.;)

We had an older woman (widowed) move across the street 3 years ago and
she moved from somewhere north of San Franciso.
She is a very nice person until she opens her mouth.
This area is rural; cattle, horses, sheep and we are one of
the last remaining conservative bastions in Washington state.

She just cannot handle it.
She will go on a liberal tirade about 'California this' and 'California that' and we should do things
this way yadda yadda yadda and then I will remind her exactly where she moved to, what our political
views encompass, what we think of California and then stand back and watch her head explode.
Again.
Good times.............good times.

I've met you, and you don't strike me as the type of Kommiefornian that irritates long term rural residents. I'm another that moved here from Calif, San Diego to be exact, in 1980. And I didn't have any hippie friends or high flying Cali attitude to bring. Nope, I moved for the hunting and fishing and all the other wholesome goodness that goes with the Great State of EORWAIDA. My ex didn't like it, couldn't adapt, so I sent her packing and found myself a country girl raised local and raised right.

Now, my two older brothers are a different story. One landed in Las Vegas and is what I call a high flyer... he lives the life of parties, coke, drinkin, and gamblin, cuz his wife is a big time Realtor there. The other brother is a Porsche driving, BMW and Volvo owning S Calif cool guy, kinda like a beach version of a hipster. No shopping at Walmart for him, oh no! The kinda guy that buys an $8 jar of olives because they are special. Trader Joes and Birkenstock sandals oh my. He's always lecturing me on various things. Just to "improve" me, ya know.

Tom, take a serious look at transplants Joe and Sharon Rudi. Joe, the retired Oakland A's baseball player, does a lot for the local baseball teams and kids. But Sharon, the real estate magnate, I've met and I'd throw her back in the lake as an example of how not to be. Very elitist!

IDPA is over for this year, sorry you couldn't make the last match! Will let you know when .22 rifle silhouette starts up just in case you are interested. Otherwise, let me know when you're in town and we can hit Side A for that pint, or two. BTW, I gotta work on my G34 sights and trigger or go back to shooting a 2011, I wasn't impressed with myself at that recent IDPA match!!! Placed #10 out of only 16 shooters (9 out of 16 shooters would kill me in a gunfight ). We only had enough people to form two squads, so it was pretty light level of participation.

I read the article.

I have yet to meet a Californian here in Idaho that did not hate with a passion what CA has become and the liberal mindset which caused it to happen

Trying to improve their lives. That's been going on forever. That's why Europeans left and became Americans. One secret to success is for transplants to adapt, rather than try to remake their new surroundings. They come both ways, the re-makers spoil it for the adapters.

Several times, California has experienced surges of immigration that riled then-current residents. I won't go back to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago, but the Great Depression comes to mind when tons of migrants from the midwest bundled up and moved to California.

Internal migration in the US is a right and a fact of life. For someone (like the mayor of Boise) to wish for an end to it, well, that's wishing for a system such as Russia has.

That being said, the Californians moving here with deeeep pockets have provided a golden opportunity for Idaho property owners to cash in big time

Yes, when Californians pay ever higher prices for real estate, it's usually Idahoans who reap the benefits. The accident of birth that works against low income Idahoans is now sometimes described as "income inequality." "Wealth inequality" follows along right behind. I'm not sure human nature will ever allow these issues to be resolved.

Re. "Zero, One, Two, Three" tiered property tax rating system mentioned in the article. I don't know the state constitution in Idaho. In Wash., that would be unconstitutional on the basis of inequity. Just like a Calif. Prop. 13 law would never make it in Wash., not equitable. But never mind constitutionality, a taxation system based on length of residence is blatantly unfair. In application, it would surely soak some rich, newer residents but likely as often would be damaging to newly-arrived low income people, not to mention natives who left and moved back. Such as people in military service, for example.

We're starting to see more and more " frogs" jumping out of the "California pot" because it's getting too hot for them. Then they jump into neighboring pots, only to then complain the new pot is colder than their "old pot" was ...

…. and demand we turn up the heat!

My folks left CA in 1979 when I was 4 years old. As ultra-conservative, 2A supporters, WA was a great place to live. Not so much any more. Been looking at ID, but am a bit concerned about the CA influx. On the bright side, I have spoken with quite a few recent transplants who love ID the way it is & have no intentions of monkeying with it. Been looking at WY, too. Figure if the weather is almost too nasty for me, it might keep the CA libs away. Anybody from WY out there?

My fear is that more from California will be coming to Oregon following the fires and water shortage. And, of course, non of their environmental problems have anything to do with state government nor the voters that empowered the politicians. The voters victimized them selves.

Californians, what do I think of them? Really depends on the person. I live pretty close to Portland so I assume a lot of the Californians I see are the neo-progressive, government employee types who just wanted to "try something new."

I know that this doesn't represent all Californians. A lot of my friends who grew up here came from California 20 or more years ago and they're as much if not more Oregonian than Californian. Don't bring the progressive philosophies and we could maybe be friends. Oh and you'd better be voting in favor of anything 2A or we can't talk.

One of my good friends lives in LA and he's politically farther right than I am. How he deals with it I don't know except I know he makes good money there. He is from here and we went to college together at OSU. He's also Romanian and knows Romania defeated communism. He is very outspoken about what he thinks of the socialism push here.

My response would be along the lines of

"Well, lady, I ain't all worldly like you big city sophisticates, but I do have electricity. Also, we don't have people 5hi77ing in the streets or on police cars, miles of homeless camps with miles of their garbage. I can walk barefoot and there is a good chance I won't step on someone's used hypodermic syringe.

We didn't need to dumb down our education system so kids that don't show up can still move on to the next grade. I do admit we are behind California in social justice and gender studies classes. We use the free time not speculating on what gender we are or if there even is a gender to study science, math, engineering, technology and agriculture.

yep, we are still pretty much a bunch of backwards hicks out here, but at least the lights are on..."

It's lack of self awareness combined with the arrogance of liberal elitism. They can't see that the consequences of their votes has destroyed a once beautiful and free state. They simply find another beautiful and free state to bring "civilization" to.

IMO Idaho should change their signage to say "Entering Arkansas, Idaho that way -->"

Idaho has always been a great example of freedom to be followed by all. The infestation of Californians and dyeing off of the old Idaho folks is going to take it down. Most people will sell out when the big money that they cant obtain in state is presented to them. Sadly he who has the gold makes the rules and the rest become sheep.

Seems Calinornian's are just in need of a new host. If they truly left because of what CA became, why would they attempt to replicate it?
I don't know why this happens. Look at most immigrant communities. They turn their neighborhoods into the poophole countries they left. I ask myself "Why did they ever leave if all they want is the same crap they left?"

In one of our Texas grocery stores, in front of the deli counter, was a platter of free samples of cheese with toothpicks in them for convenience of sampling.

I was gnawing on one of the samples when a woman sidled up next to me then proceeded to sneer at the 'freebie' samples platter stating: "That's against the law in california".

So, I munched for a few seconds and asked her "what's keeping you here"?

She gave me an open mouth look of dismay and quickly walked away...yes, women can be jerks too. Especially, when they come from kommiefornia with kommiefornia airs of superiority...
Clearly that dipstick has never set foot in a Costco. Or Whole Foods for that matter. What a maroon.

The way I see it.

That is the best summation of the Californian liberal expat.:s0155:

So as an ex- Californian myself. I am wondering
What are the Californians earning in Idaho? I get that selling your house in the PRK is very lucrative but are these Californians retirees like myself living off pension SSI and/or 401K's or are they in fact working for a living? If they are working, are they making significantly more than an Idahoan would in the same job?
If they are retirees, don't sweat it we aren't going to live that much longer. If they are working at high paying jobs in Idaho than my sympathy light goes totally out. People making crap wages generally do so because they were lazy in school or not motivated enough to study or work harder to get better jobs. Don't blame an employer for hiring out of staters if he can't find the talent locally. I was in a crap job so i made the decision to go back to school and get my degree. It meant an end to partying or having a life in general for a while, because I had bills to pay and now added tuition and books etc on top of that. All while paying high rents/cost of living etc in the Bay Area. I got the degree, got promoted and started making way better money. People whining about income inequality need to look in a mirror to find the source of their trouble. Griping about Californians raising housing costs is half the problem. Why is it we hear nothing about the Idahoans (or Washingtonians or Oregonians) who are selling their homes for these high prices or raising their rents ?
And where are they moving to after getting their windfalls? And what about the money the Californians are dumping into the local economies? I mentioned to my contractor about how I had not met any resentment as an expat Californian and he laughed and said he loved us (Californians in general). We're putting his kids through college.
I get that too many Californians are like the third world immigrants I commented on earlier. They did leave California because it sucks but then begin trying to convert their new home into another California. What can I say? They're stupid, A total disconnect in their reasoning. So make sure you get off your butts and get your friends off their arses and outvote them!
You aren't going to stop the migration and whining solves nothing. So get educated and take the jobs the Californians are moving here for. Get politically active to counter their stupidities and never forget that many California expats, such as those on this forum are very much on your side. Don't throw the baby out with the bath!:D

I hate Californians absolutely fooking hate every single one of you here in Idaho - don't tell me you're a conservative or gun guy or leaving a cesspool
I.
DON'T.
F'ING.
CARE
GET.
OUT!

I don't want you here.

It's funny how that toilet paper of a news paper doesn't get the actual issue. We have the same problem here in Bend/Redmond; droves of Californians. It's not the housing costs that get under our skins. It's the shift in political ideologies. Californians come and vote in larger gas taxes, horrible public transportation bills, anti gun and hunting laws, low income housing and other welfare state laws, and plenty of land use conservation laws.
They are politically active in the worst way and fundamentally change our way of life to become the exact reason they left Ca.
Welcome to Portland also,I think they started degrading Bend before they did Portland by a few years but they came in here filling every nook and cranny and screwing up Portland also. Cant wait till I see it in my rear view mirror too.

That'll stop them for sure.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard a customer say, "Oh, were from California, and looking for a place up here" God, I'd be a rich man.

Let's face it, they destroyed their state and want to bail out. They are not welcome.

They pooped in their hard hat, and now they have to wear it.
