Idaho will no longer investigate wolf poaching. The 12 groups (Oregon Wild, Defenders of Wildlife, Center for Biodiversity, etc) that sued to re-list the wolf need to take accountability for this, but of course they're going to blame ID's gov.

They left the governor with no choice. What did they expect? A state to continue to fund wolves when they are not allowed to manage them? That's ignorant. The majority of ID citizens didn't want them, the state voted down re-introducing them but they were forced on the state. Without any options to control numbers.

I hope the groups are happy. At least with allowing the state to manage (allowing a hunt) you're guaranteed that they won't be slaughtered to a point of no return. With no enforcement now that is a possibility.

Arrogance & Heavy Handed Politics at it's best. Shame on each of those groups for continuing to lie and move the goal line.

Yes... They're called "Hippies". PDX is riddled with them. They're large fur-bearing creatures with poor hygiene and a love for tribal music called "Reggae". Although not native to this region, they have been unnaturally migrating to this area for the past 50 years. Left unmanaged, they have established a system of rule among their herd called "Socialism". These creatures have not evolved to the level of common human species, mainly due to their thought process being ruled by emotion and very seldom involves a logic based decision making process.

The true tragedy is that these "Hippie" creatures have overwhelmed the native species of humans, and have forced them to move out of this region. A good number of the original habitants have migrated north to an area called Vancouver.

If Vancouver is the alternative, I'll put up with the hippies! :D

don;t forget to mention that the native wolves that got wiped out are not the same wolves that they re-introduced. The native ones were much smaller. Think large Coyote. The re-intro'd wolves are either alaskan or canadian and much larger. Accordingly, and predictably, deer and elk populations are on the decline with a very high mortality rate for the babies. Which supposedly they are also dumfounded by and won't admit to. This is exactly why the greeny, feel good, enviro-policy douches need to GTFO and leave things alone. Its the same thing with the forests on state lands. Won't let em burn, but won't allow thinning so we end up with these huge patches of diseased forests. Fricken self righteous idiots.

I've been here in OR for about a year now, moved here from SE Idaho. The elk herd I used to hunt has been next to eliminated from the insane wolf population. The first year I went hunting in Idaho I went with my father-in-law and a buddy; on the way outto the area we were hunting my FIL pulled the car over and told us he has only 2 rules when hunting and if you break either of them you walk your trash home (we had driven 5 or 6 hours from home at this point). His rules were 1) safe shooting practices will always be utilized - if you're not sure whether or not you should shoot then you definitely shouldn't; 2) any wolf seen MUST be shot at - if you don't shoot you walk home. He's a dairy farmer and has lost dozens of head from wolves killing the cows to eat the udders off of them. They're a damn disease and, in my opinion, should be eradicated. Introduce he native wolf, that's great, don't bring in a giant wolf that is known to kill for sport rather than necessity.

So.................how do I apply for a tag for one of these? :D

the native wolves that got wiped out
Environmentally speaking they had their chance and could not make it. Why have Coyotes survived and not Wolves? Heck we have been relentlessly shooting, trapping and (no longer) poisoning them for 100 + years and they are doing well in spite of our efforts.

Ha! Ha! Well said! I will ad that they smoke pot a lot to cloud their thinking and like free government stuff.

Kill em, bury em, find some more, and if they've got a tracking device tie it to a piece of wood and send it down the river. Keep the peta, wolf loving, pack trackers on there toes. The only good wolf is a dead wolf.

Coyotes filled a hole left when wolves were exterminated. Lots of small game and rodents and nothing to eat them and nothing to eat the coyotes so they exploded in population. Killing and trapping coyotes is done out of boredom more than anything else as they are not a real threat to livestock so there never has been a concerted effort to get rid of them like there was with wolves. Wolves are scary because they threaten livestock.

good for ID! Dept of fish and game made a huge mistake with the wolves.

Im always looking for big coyotes to shoot. ;)

I'm pretty sure they had no choice in the matter. It was forced on them, just like it will be forced on us.

Once the sustainable wolf numbers are way above targets (as they are in Idaho). Where management is needed. The humane societies lawsuits will keep the wolves on the endangered list, just as they are now.

The wolves that were imported into Yellowstone Park (to control elk overpop.);were from Canada; where they are treated like 'we' treat coyotes.
No season
No tag
No shooting time
No limit

SO..............How did they get endangered when they crossed the political

geographic border?

Tell that to my rancher relative who found 3 coyotes eating a new calf as it was being born.

Lots of misconceptions about wolves here, very disheartening.
And what exactly would those be Dake?

That they AREN'T endangered?
Despite the FACT that there are thousands if not a million or more north of the U.S./Canada border. That's where we imported them from.
Canada's shoot-on-site policy hasn't eradicated them yet,... What makes anyone think a controlled licensed hunter management plan would?

That they don't kill one or more ungulates or head of livestock per week to feed the pack?
Just how much meat do you think an adult 100+lb dog-like animal eats a day?
3lbX10wolvesx7days=210lbs of meat per week per pack minimum. Easily an adult cow elk or mature mule deer buck, or 3 bovine calves, or 3 mature sheep. Per week-per pack minimum. 1000 wolves means 100 packs@10/pack=300 sheep per week or 15,000+ sheep or calves per year if they only feed on sheep and cattle. Which they don't.

That they don't "kill livestock for sport"? When indeed they do as a matter of teaching their brood(s) to hunt/kill.

Or are you talking about the MYTH that they only kill the sick/weak?
Sorry, but there are too many videos available that show them taking down healthy mature cow and bull elk to even consider that the truth.

Stop listening to the HSUS inspired anti-hunting rhetoric and pay attention to what real wildlife biologists, that are responsible for ALL wildlife have to say.
Most will tell you this was an ill conceived plan to begin with.

More this. The only good wolf is a dead wolf? That's silly, frightening, and short-sighted. And they don't typically hunt livestock. If you can prove that your livestock was killed by a wolf, you'll be paid the cost of the animal killed, unless that has changed in the last 6 months.

Either way, I think the prospcet of erradicating a native species is sickening.
