I spoke today with Floyd Prozanski on Oregon Universal Background Checks (UBC)

Floyd Prozanski is the primary advocate in the Oregon Senate of requiring government background checks (UBC) for ALL Oregon firearm transfers which is effectively total gun registration - the first step to confiscation.

SHORT VERSION: Floyd Prozanski is intractable to logic on the subject. When I pointed out that UBC is in effect a camoflaged registration scheme, he pointedly did not see registration as a bad thing.

Indeed his whole attitude was disbelief that anyone could possibly hold an opinion different from his on the subject. The mark of a true zealot.

At last he asked "What's the difference between having background checks on dealer and gun show transfers and having them on ALL transfers?"

I answered: "The difference between standing in three feet of water and eight feet of water."

He didn't even blink. Further discussion seemed pointless.

BOTTOM LINE: Floyd Prozanski is the dedicated enemy of every Oregon gun owner's rights. He cannot be convinced to change his advocacy of UBC. He can only be compelled.

We must seek to compel him.

I always wonder what it is in a man's heart that drives his in such a fashion. I can understand an attempt to witness to someone about Christianity for example, because there is a good motive behind that and when someone does not accept the message, then move on, but what drives a person like Floyd to such an extreme to want to force his personal belief on everyone to the point of incarceration for not bending to his will?

Sounds to me like he and others like him needs to be RECALLED!!!!!!
Colorado did it without major gun rights orgs too!!!! Grass roots, mouth to mouth salesmanship!!!

I've wondered the same thing about 'Pink Floyd' and other hard core 'liberal' zealots. I've concluded that it's actually very simple: pure arrogance. They genuinely believe they are far, far smarter than the rest of the cattle out there and if the stupid masses would ONLY follow his / their lead, it'd all be better and we'd all hold hands and skip merrily into the sunset in peace and harmony. Those stupid people that cling to their religions, their guns, their beliefs are only idiotic obstacles to people like this, which is why you can't reason with them - you're beneath their blinding brilliance.

His blind arrogance is only exceeded by his complete naivete, which is why people like this are so very, very dangerous. Facts don't matter when there's an agenda to further.

I'd add a few motives for some of our Oregon politicians. For Prozanski and Burdick, they have publicly testified that the laws they propose will have no impact whatsoever on crime. Therefore, the only logical conclusion is that it's pandering to those who have lost loved ones to crime, and to further their own political careers. In Prozonskis' case, he wears his sisters death on his shirtsleeve to gain support for his crusade.

By pandering to, and leveraging peoples grief and fear, they hope to gain a reputation for compassion, caring, and a sense of higher morality. Of course, the real reasons are nothing like this. It's purely politics and feeding their own egos.

Passing laws because they like them, ignoring the consequences, and grasping at straws to justify the hopped effectiveness. Yea... sounds like a really great legislature we have....

I've read that one before, and it's never really been about "party". It's about the evil schmucks who wrap themselves with religious, national, racial, socio-economic, or party "colors".

Those are all just a means to an end, the end game is power and wealth. Hence the term, "united we stand, divided we fall".
