But I should add that most of the time that we got to play with those big things was down range when it was 10 to 20 below zero Colorado Mountains, it was freaking cold!!!!

Yeah, the motor pool had steam bays for that during the season & yeah being cold then frozen didn't feel too welcoming either...
Coldest place I have ever personally witnessed.

When my dad joined the Army ... He didn't have a driver's license or even have experience driving.
His basic was at Fort Knox .... and the first vehicle he drove was a tank.
Leave to the Army to have a guy who never drove anything before ... drive a tank.
