Sorry if this has been already discussed, it's a long thread. I recall hearing that 1639 introduces some new gun storage requirements for assault rifles, specifically they must be stored in a locked case even while being transported say to the range. Am I off on this one?

There doesn't seem to be any special storage or transporting requirements for semi auto rifles at this time. There were a number of gun control laws proposed in the legislature this year that did not pass and people read the headlines and assume they became law. All laws in WA are listed as an RCW and are pretty easy to search and are updated to conform with I1639, make sure you are reading the update dated July 1 2019. I1639 is easy to search for and shows the updated RCW if you want the correct information.

Teacher, NRA member, CPL holder, statistically speaking, I'm about as safe to be around as peaceable person could get. Sure would be nice to be treated like such. Lol

^^Nope.

Gun owners wake up? That would be nice...many, Fudds especially, will be scratching their heads as brick & mortar shops go under from this train wreck. Elsewhere, someone was reporting a very large, well-known sporting goods store in Western WA hasn't sold an AR since 7/1. Unfortunately, when firearms related business suffer, we all loose.

Playing out all as planned, while wayyyyyy too many are either asleep at the wheel or ignoring the warnings they have been given on multiple occasions. The word has been spread far and wide...many have no excuses except apathy. Unless our side unifies and gets its sh*t together, we're about one generation away from having no public shooting sports here in the PNW (you can bet shooting ranges will more aggressively pursued in the not too distant future).

The big organizations (NRA/SAF/GOA/etc) need to get together and step up a lot getting financially-supported boots on the ground here in the PNW, which is becoming ground zero...'grassroots' (ie free labor) are great, but we need more centralized, organized, $$ backed folks who aren't trying to fit in it on top of a 12 hr.+ work day all the time.

My $.02 worth.

Question with Sheriff's that are not enforcing 1639; what are they doing different? Have FFL's received any guidance? Leave with gun if you have a CPL, semi-auto rifle (nics check like before), no check mark in the hippa waiver??? Thanks

Please correct me if I am wrong but I have seen little here about the impact on the Pawn industry and it's clients from I-1639 and more specifically the FBI pushing all handgun/SAR NICS checks to the LEO. Until July 1 ALL "redemptions" went through the FBI now legal owners must follow the same process as a "purchaser", local LEO for check and upto 10 days +.

Thoughts?

Yes, there are the Fudds. But there is another problem -- even if the Fudds started voting correctly, we would most likely get out-voted on every initiative 100% of the time. That is due to changing demographics. Consider this as a possibility: Washington is no longer an AMERICAN state, but it has been overrun by people from other countries who have completely different values. Have you noticed that the the prominent politicians in King County area weren't even born in America?

------------------------------------------------

As King County diversifies, people of Asian descent made up the majority of growth last year

Even so, earlier releases of census data show that King County attracts a significant number of people from Asian countries each year — in 2016, for example, about 12,000 people. So it's likely that a relatively large percentage of last year's growth in the Asian population was due to international migration.

But there's more to this story of demographic change. The new census data also reveal a marked slowing of the growth of King County's white population.

As an immigrant to our great country myself, I have to respectfully disagree with you. I believe what we are experiencing has far more to do with urbanization than lawful immigration.

While it's true that immigrants always bring with them some of the culture and values from whence they came, it's been that way since time immemorial, that's the whole point of the great melting pot. I can't prove this of course, but I can say with confidence, when I took my oath of citizenship, neither the state nor the country became any less American.

Nicely worded. That agrees with my experience as well.

Immigration must be orderly and measured to be successful. Allowing unscreened millions into the country creates problems, especially when they overwhelm the preexisting population and the third world norms displace the prior norms and values.

I do agree that urbanization also contributes to these modern problems too.

+1. Very nicely written bikemutt. Somewhat shocking 44brent's definition of his 'American state'.

Let's have a Q and A session:

Q. What is the demographic profile of people that voted for Democrat Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (born in India)? Pramila Jayapal - Wikipedia
A. ____________

Q. What is the demographic profile of people that voted for Socialist Kshama Sawant (born in India) who is a member of the Seattle City Council? Kshama Sawant - Wikipedia
A. ____________

Q. What is the demographic profile of people that voted for Democrat State Representative Manka Dhingra? Biography - Sen. Manka Dhingra - Washington State Senate Democrats
A. ____________

Multiple choice Q. Seattle is a "sanctuary city" for illegal aliens because:
A) Politicians know that illegal aliens never vote, so they have invited illegal aliens to live there out of the goodness of their heart.
B) Politicians know that illegal aliens vote all the time, and see illegal aliens as key voting support blocs.
C) Too hard to figure this one out, so we will do a little research . What does it mean for Seattle to be a sanctuary city for immigrants?

Amongst man other questions, which I should probably emphasize and write down, 1639 is too vague in details. My question: do I have to take the safety class to buy lower recievers?

No. Only Semi auto rifles.
I find it amazing that I have been operating guns, mostly bolt actions and handguns, since the age of 8 and currently 36 and a law like this would be implemented. I don't necessarily disagree with safety classes but in my situation a safety class would be a tactical class. Granted, new weapon owners, and I mean "new," the majority of it is obvious safety: 1: never put your finger on the trigger till your target is acquired or point the weapon at anyone unless it is a life threatening or potential harm situation. 2: treat every weapon as if it were loaded in reference to rule 1. 3: Respect the weapon, do not fear it; it can end your life as fast it can end a life (which I have also transferred to my electrical knowledge). Learned all this from my dad, a Marine, who kept them in the house for the same reasons I will which, short and simple, better to have one and not need it than need one and not have it.
