Let me give you a more colorful example of "Party Hunting" In most cases it's a cliquish group of old farts that put the fattest, slowest sumofuhbiatch on a stump at a choke point. The more agile party members then harass, run, or attempt to herd game towards the shooter. Everybody (tag holders) takes a turn on the gun according to seniority or whoever brought the most alcohol and smoked salmon to camp! What is "Party Hunting" I am unfamiliar with that phrase.

In Oregon......NO!
In Oregon......NO!
Thats why I like the .24 caliber minimum in WA for big game. Carry a .223 or 22-250, which is legal for cougar, and all is good!
I LIKE THE 24 CALIBER RULE FOR ANY GAME ANIMAL OTHER THEN DEER/ANTELOPE BUT OREGON ALLOWS 22 FOR BEAR, DEER AND ANTELOPE. 24 OR LARGER FOR ELK AND GOAT OR SHEEP. BEAR SHOULD BE IN THE 24 AND LARGER IN MY OPINION AS WELL BUT HEY, ODFW DOES WHAT THEY DO!
HONESTLY, I LIKE A 33 OR BIGGER FOR ELK. SEEN TOO MANY GUYS SITTING IN CAMPS OVER THE YEARS WITH THEIR JAWS IN THE DIRT BUMMED OUT OVER LOSING AN ELK TO A SHOT A BIT TOO FAR BACK OR 7MM MAG ZIPPED THRU IT WITHOUT MUCH EXPANSION OR HELL FOR THAT MATTER...ONE RIGHT IN THE BOILER ROOM! FRIEND CALLED FOR US TO HELP HIM SOME YEARS BACK TO TRACK AN ELK HE SMACKED WITH A 7MM MAG AND DIDNT FIND IT TIL THE SECOND SEASON HUNTERS FOUND IT STINKING ALMOST TWO MILES AWAY! WAS A COLLAR'D RAG HORN SO YES IT WAS SAME ELK. HE HIT IT PRETTY GOOD BUT THAT 160 GRN AT 65 YDS ZIPPED THRU IT WITHOUT TEARING UP MUCH OF A WOUND CHANNEL. CHIT CAN HAPPEN! PUT SOME ENERGY INTO THOSE TOUGH BASTIDS! THEY CAN GO A LONG WAYS ON A "GREAT SHOT!" LOL! BIGGER BULLETS WITH SOME POWDER BEHIND EM!
AND YA YA, BEFORE NINE GUYS CHIMN IN ABOUT KILLIN ELK WITH A 243 ETC....IVE KILLED TWO ELK WITH A 308 WITH IRON SIGHTS AND TWO WITH 270'S AND ONE WITH 06. POINT IS WHEN I GOT A BIT OLDER I WENT UP TO MAGNUMS WITH A BIT MORE POOP AND BULLET WEIGHT. ESPECIALLY IN THE THICK, STEEP WOODS! I JUST LIKE BIGGER BULLETS FOR ELK WITH SOME POOP BEHIND THEM! LOL!
Drop the caps please...
