We should point out that the state has started to address the mental health issue with the new law that allows confiscation if a person is a threat to themselves or others. This new law should have stopped Parkland. Which other mass shootings should this law have prevented - we need a list.

I am not sure what you are saying exactly ???

Love him or hate him, President Trump stated after Las Vegas that it was not a gun issue, but a mental health issue. That should at least be one of the major points. How many killers have given numerous clues, even stating what they would soon do - and were ignored.

"Bump stocks, we are writing that out. I am writing that out," Trump said, addressing a group of state governors at the White House. "I don't care if Congress does it or not, I'm writing it out myself."

Remember the AR-15 "auto sear" from the mid-late 70s? Drop in, no mod full-auto. Something like $39.95 via Shotgun News. Banned by BATF. Same thing, I would have to guess. But, what about class III states? Florida gunshops had water-cooled Browning 30s on the floor when I was there in '78. They could not carry concealed. They drooled over my WA State CWP.

Not "banned", the production of new machine guns for private ownership was halted in 1986 by the Hughes Amendment. You can still buy a pre-1986 registered auto sear with a transfer tax stamp. The auto sear actually turned your civilian AR into a full auto. The ATF already ruled that the bump-stock does not turn your AR into a machine gun. Also, the 1986 "ban" was passed by Congress, who makes new laws, Trump cannot just "write out" bump stocks without a new law from Congress.

Dune Hopper,

My comment was about your statement: "I don't know but if we don't start addressing that mental health issue swaying will be hard."

I'm saying that we should use the new law that "confiscates guns from people deemed dangerous to themselves and others" against the anti-gun crowd in our arguments. It's now law, and had it been in place in Florida, and had it been enforced, it should have prevented the Parkland shooting. Many of the other mass shooters have given clear signals that they were going to do harm. Maybe such laws will make a difference - I did oppose it before it was voted into law, but now that it's law, let's see if it does any good.

So, I guess I'm saying to tell the anti-gunners to give that new law a chance before piling on a bunch of needless laws like IP43. Maybe that new law will make a difference and we don't need IP43? I know, anti-gunners don't care about facts - they just hate guns.

Related to IP43, ever notice how after every mass shooting, the police immediately say where the shooter got the gun and if it was obtained legally? Clearly the guns being used in mass shootings are already traceable, so why do we need mandatory registration as required by IP43?

Back on topic I agree our gun clubs we belong to need to change the anti's message about
guns. In schools today almost everything about gun ownership is negative. Get the word
out about Ladies Beginner Pistol Class  at DRRC:):):):):)

Firearms are traceable only IF law enforcement has a serial number. Privately sold guns would also be a problem to trace. If this article on BATF firearms tracing is any indication, I'm not too worried about that 13 round 22 plinker I have in the safe.

Want to Know How the Cops Actually Trace a Gun?

Hmmm, 300 attending pro-2A, and 3000 antis on March 24. I figured they'd find a way to get that in... national reporting was the same score.

I read the article however this is not correct they claim over and over that there is no list, that is not true.

Lets first look at the facts in many states including Oregon the BGC done also has a track of what was sold.
Top this date the OSP here in Oregon has been vague and very unclear when they actually delete the item.
Case in point a 1995 firearm was called in to the OSP and indeed was registered and the new owner was replaced
the old owners name. A phone and DL number was updated. How do I know? Because I saw it happen first hand in person
speaking with OSP. What makes this interesting is this 1995 fir arms was was looked at in 2007 and they knew who had owned it previously. I won't share further details but saw and know 100% there was a firearm on a list from 1995 to 2007, now that was then when things were not bad here rights wise and I would find it very hard to believes they stopped. And this was in Oregon imagine other huge lefty states and one has to know there are lists. Now this article is very miss leading with a nice smoke am mirror job, there may very well be no federal database, but that doesn't mean other states don't hold list as I know for a fact 100% they do here where I live. And is why SB941 made it much much worse.

How to sway public opinion?

I'd love to see a movie about today's armed citizens rising up against gun confiscation and taking over government. It should be educational in case it actually needs to happen someday. A great director like Clint Eastwood, with the help of ex-military guys, could really have some fun with it and make it realistic.

Or, a movie about the holocaust or one of the other genocides where the victims HAD GUNS and destroyed their oppressors would be good too.

I'd like those movies, but that first one might cause the anti-gun folks to need a clean pair of underwear! :)

I'll have to watch "The Patriot" again soon.

Know of any other good movies about such topics?

How 'bout a documentary on Firearms , firearm ownership and owners in America...?
I know a guy , who has a few original muzzle loaders , who would be happy to share , for such a venture...:D

It would actually be quite boring as most gun owners are safe and law abiding...the only shooting done would be at "range time" , gravel pits and the like along with rendezvous and hunting...
Very seldom does our carry gun or home defense gun get fired in earnest...

It could showcase :
Shooting area clean ups by gun owners...
Safety classes offered by gun owners...
The fact law abiding gun owners far outnumber the misuse or criminal use of firearms...
That we as gun owners are not the scary media stereotype that is commonly shown....

That would be good, but not sure how many viewers on the left would bother to watch it. I would like to see the Dept of Education require education on why we have a 2nd Amendment and the consequences that have occurred to people who did not have one - 2 or 3 hours of video would probably be adequate. This should be a requirement to receive a HS diploma or GED. I have written to him (Trump) about it, but I realize it will probably never happen. As long as we have a Dept of Education, might as well have them do something useful for a change - it could sway some students opinions.

A gun safety course taught in schools , would be nice.
No politics , no pushing of any agenda...just firearm safety...
After all there are millions of firearms out there already...why not teach someone how to be safe with 'em...?

IMO I believe the anti-gun movement is mostly an anti Donald Trump movement. Those activist airheads don't know anything about guns, but they'll take any opportunity to take a swing at Trump and the Republican Party, such is their deep level of personal indignation. Once they got the kids on their side they saw an opportunity to go to war and they took it.

IMO the most important thing that can be done is let people know we are not the knuckle dragging sexist/racists and science deniers like they make us out to be. That's the caricature they are using to prosecute us in the schools, in the movies, and everywhere else. Let's put those rebel flags away until after the election. Every little socialist b*tch that sees it is going to vote for Measure 43 and 44 twice. It's not going to do us any good to be prideful if we have to register our guns and mags with the government every year.

Has money or political ads ever persuaded you to another position?
For me, never.
I get a bit offended (not "triggered") when the loser claims an election was bought. It's insulting to every voter, IMO. Clinton outspent Trump by a YUUGE amount and he still won.
As w any issue or candidate you have 30/30/30... for, against, and don't care. Money is helpful to get the messege out, but talking to as many people as possible is the way to sway opinions... we need that middle 30% and they're more likely to be swayed by a polite discussion over a hyperbolic campaign ad.

I have seen politicians change my minds to oppose them, but never to support them I base it on their track record and knowledge as well as their patriotism.

Definitely teach gun safety. Also, I think kids should be taught why we have the 2A. They're out marching against it and I suspect most don't even know why we have it.
