I looked for Ballistol when I was in Sportsman's Warehouse and then in Bi-Mart. But no luck. I already left and just went with some Hoppe's Bore Cleaner. I suppose that's a "solvent". And should work to clean it when necessary again. But I will keep Eezox in the memory for next time. What I have now should last me quite a while with only having one firearm right now. 🙂
I'd never seen or heard of Ballistol till I started watching Hickok45's video's. He's a fan. I buy mine through Amazon.

I just ordered a 2 pack/6oz of the aerosol on Amazon.

I love that guy and his son's channel! I love their property. I'm super jelly. That's like a total dream property. And I had never heard of any of this stuff 6 months ago…lol. It came to me that I want to own a firearm and be a responsible ccw carrier. And now my brain is sore from how many questions I've asked, videos I've watched and classes I've taken! But it's one of the great decisions I've made in my life. Amazon is a great idea. But I did notice that they would not ship any of the holsters that I looked at to my address. Not sure about the cleaning solutions, though.

I guess I'm just so new that I'm afraid I'll mess something up or never get it back together. I did successfully put it back together after my last range trip. But now I'm a little skeptical about whether or not it will work next time…lol. And there was no solvent in my cleaning kit. So it just got wiped and very lightly oiled. Gonna get some solvent today.

You'll be fine. The Sheild isn't that complicated a gun to work on. Basically, if you can get it apart without breaking or losing anything, strong odds you can get it back together in working order. Like Andy said, no leftover parts! :D

Seven pages later...
I clean my guns after every use. Maybe not on the same day it was used, but within a reasonable amount of time. I know I could procrastinate, but I'd sure hate to be called away on business and know I have a gun at home, dirty.

When I think they need it. I've put a couple of hundred rounds of jacketed ammo thru one of my 357s in the last couple of trips. There's no reason to clean it. It will function just fine and if it couldn't/wouldn't, I'd think it was time for a better gun.
If I'm going to not shoot a gun for an extended period of time, I should clean it.
My hunting rifles get checked for zero before the season starts and will most definitely NOT get cleaned until after the season is over. A cold clean barrel usually shoots in a different place than a cold, fouled barrel.

All ya gotta do when you take it apart is push that little thingie (ejector) down. Just put it together once it's clean. Then go make it dirty again!

There are so many how-to videos on Youtube, on how take guns apart and put them back together again. Nowadays even a beginner can reassemble a Ruger Standard without having to take it in to a gunsmith.

I'm a little jealous actually. It took me hours to figure out how to put my Standard back together the first time 35 years ago.

Is that normal? Doesn't sound normal.
Sounds normal to this old Marine. I am exactly the same. Religiously cleaned no matter even if not shot. Lube/greased. Mags/speedloaders, shell holders, and bandoliers checked. Mission ready. Awaiting further orders. Any other way sounds lazy to me. Maybe half-bubblegum is the better term.

My first standing inspection with my M1 and my BAR, the inspector picked up one of my BAR Magazines, slid the bottom off, ran his finger up inside and screamed in my face, "This Weapon Is Filthy".

The only time I was ever gigged in a weapons inspection. :(
