I've been reloading for several years and have accumulated a bunch of reloaded ammo. I do also have some factory ammo I keep for trading purposes. I've reloaded about (and have on hand) 3000 rounds of 7.62x39, 2500 of .223/5.56, 1500 rounds of .45 ACP, and misc. large amounts of .38 40, .44 40, .45 Colt and of course the proverbial large amounts of factory 9mm, .22, .380 and the like. Is this too much reloaded ammo? It's good stuff and I don't have misfires to speak of. I can't seem to stop and I enjoy it.

Thoughts?

Have a very Merry Christmas!
IMHO, You have too much reloaded ammo when you can no longer keep up with the the batch, powder, powder weight, bullet and primer used in each and every round. For some people that might be 100 rounds for others that might be 100,000 rounds. ...just my 2 cents!

I also use MTM boxes and label each box with the load recipe and load date. I have too much reloaded ammo when I run out of MTM boxes of the right size for a particular caliber.

I think others have a lot of good points. Largely it depends on your goals and your time.

Do you have limited times where you can load what you want, or can you do it anytime? For example if you have limited times when you can load, you are likely to load more during that time. For us, we travel a lot so I am only around at certain times to load.

What will you, or likely more importantly your heirs do with your reloaded ammo once you are no longer able to use it or are gone? Components are easier to move than reloaded ammo if that is a consideration.

Tagging onto the last one, how much do you shoot? Having a year or so worth of loaded ammo is not a bad idea.

Prep takes the most work. I have lots of brass prepped and ready to go, once it gets to that point, it is easy and quick to make loaded ammo.

My son will take care of making it used brass again, he already does a very good job of that.......

I do 45 ACP, 9mm, 38 Special and 357 and would like to start doing 30-06 and 7.5 French. I am starting to buy the tooling for the rifle cartridges. I have a couple hundred ahead on all my pistol stuff and am totally cool with that. I feel bad that I don't have any rifle reloaded ahead. So I guess my comfort zone is somewhere in there. The reality of my life is that I don't want to have too much junk laying round and I fully realize one man's trash is another man's treasure. So if I stepped off of this earth I don't want my crap to be a burden. My people know what to do with my guns, but since people don't usually trust reloaded ammo, seems like a potential waste. I do have about 800-1000 rounds per caliber of factory loads however.

I used to do a lot of clay target shooting. I bought lead by the ton. Powder by the case. (16 lbs) and primers 10,000 at a time. Wasn't uncommon the have 4000 rds of 12 gauge reloads at one time. Plus some factory ammo. Oh, I also reload for numerus rifle and handgun calibers.
Hay! Some people knit. I reload.

Looking for 5+ acres, most people shoot on their own property. If a smaller parcel comes along, my buddy has 30+ acres that he's gonna build a shooting range just for us. :s0155::s0155::s0155:
COOL! I've had a pretty good idea you get to a range fairly often. So there might be some lag time for you. I/We decided to join our local "Johnson Creek" indoor gun club again. Handgun only, no magnum, .22 rifle OK. Must shoot at 50'. I was pretty good with my pistols when we left at the end of the rona. I lost all my muscle memory for hand gun.

The past few years I've been slackin off for shooting time, no one to go with I suppose. It's not like I don't have ammo to throw away…
Really looking forward to reconnecting with my life long friends down there. ;)

That's were I took my CHL course, back when you actually had to show proficiency with a handgun. Only time I've been there. Nice little range tucked away where almost nobody knows it's there.
The "No Magnums" part kinda sucks, though.
