17+1 in the gun, 17 in the spare mag = 35 rounds total.

Oh! Oregon has better mag capacity laws. I can't even get 11 in mine. If you put 10 in, rack it so there is one in the chamber and then load one more in the magazine, it will not go in. It hits the bullet already in the chamber. I have to have 10 and another 10.17+1 in the gun, 17 in the spare mag = 35 rounds total.
As soon as it gave me resistance, I didn't try anymore. I didn't want to mess anything up or break anything. I still have decent strength even through my pain. I'll give it more force next time and see. Will it work if say one of your son's load it? I'm wondering if it's a hand strength issue and you are unable to apply enough force to the mag to get it seated fully to lock in the gun.
Some mags just won't cooperate when fully loaded. You can hope that over time and with use, the spring will take a set and operate correctly, or you can opt to do what a lot of folks do in that situation and that is to down load the mag by 1 round…..
Insert that mag and slam the butt on the table, that'll seat it, just kidding....As soon as it gave me resistance, I didn't try anymore. I didn't want to mess anything up or break anything. I still have decent strength even through my pain. I'll give it more force next time and see.
Hahahaha! In my mind, it would absolutely fire off a round if I did that. So…no!Insert that mag and slam the butt on the table, that'll seat it, just kidding....
Sometimes my arm gets a little long carrying this can...
Those cool as heck!
Is it tough for some people at first? Maybe because of having brand new mags where the spring is super stiff? Or once you're a seasoned pro, no brand new mag is any trouble ever? Like I said, I didn't even try a second time because it didn't feel exactly how it felt inserting the magazine with the slide open. I was like, NOPE!Actually it's not a bad idea. Just don't do the slamming part. Place the fully loaded mag into the gun with a round already chambered keep gun in a direction and then press the butt of the gun down on the table (recommend the bench/table at the range). Keep your finger clear and high up on the slide. You can use your body to push straight down on the grip, thus putting pressure on the bottom of the mag and hopefully locking in place. You could also ask the RSO on duty to see if they can insert a fully loaded mag into your chambered gun.
I don't know why sometimes it inserts multiple comments. Sorry, @orygun! But I thought those boxes of ammo looked cool as heck! Are those boxes really from the 60's?Is it tough for some people at first? Maybe because of having brand new mags where the spring is super stiff? Yes, they are. All but two of the boxes are exactly like this one. The other two are the normal brown military boxes. All of the rounds are either 65 Match or 66 Match headstamped.I don't know why sometimes it inserts multiple comments. Sorry, @orygun! But I thought those boxes of ammo looked cool as heck! For me I shoot the carry ammo in the gun every couple months. I load the back up ammo and reload the empty mag with fresh ammo. This has me shooting about a box of carry ammo a year. and only carrying ammo for a few months at a time. I live where it is very hot, the inside of my truck parked in direct sun gets over 165 degrees often. Any ammo I keep in the truck stays in a foam ice chest to protect it from high heat. DRI appreciate everyone's input. I think for me right now, fully loaded with one extra mag in the car is what I'm gonna keep doing. Switching out the mags though every day or so, so the same one doesn't sit in the car being exposed to either hot or cold temperatures. But I am taking everybody's accounts into consideration. Thank you!
My style as well.16+1 in the pistol, plus two extra 16 round mags as my daily carry for most of the year!
When I carry the compact, it's 12+1 plus 1 spare 12 rounder!
When I carry one of the Revolvers, it's 5 or 6 ( depending on the gun) plus at least two speed loaders, again, depending on which gun i'm carrying!
I also ALWAYS carry a truck rifle, one of my handy carbines, and ether full battle load of mags, or for those that use stripper clips, a full battle load out plus my plate carrier and plates and vest/chest rig!
When my Shield was new I had a lot of trouble loading mags. The last two rounds were difficult to jam in there, and with a round in the chamber I had trouble getting the mag to lock in place. after loading and unloading the mags 20 or 30 times the springs eased up, the mags became easier to load and I could load against a closed bolt without much effort.Oh! Thank you! I actually do have two of those! One for the car and one for home. They work great for loading. The 10th round is still more of an effort to get in. But totally doable. When I was taking my shooting lessons, the instructor had one of those and highly recommended it. It's a thumb saver! And hopefully the brand new mags will ease up a little over time. Gonna try getting the whole mag loaded with one in the chamber here on my days off. When my Shield was new I had a lot of trouble loading mags. One of my kids showed me a mag loader that actually worked. its made in Isriel by the Maglula company. it is the only loader that seems to work effortlessly on every mag I have tried it on. it was the best $20 I have ever spent on a mag loader.
