I dont think the cold bothers them. High heat does and constant heating and cooling degrades them. I live where its extremely hot, It often gets over 165 degrees in a closed up truck parked in direct sun. I do keep my spare ammo in a foam ice chest. and I rotate the ammo stored there every couple months.Seems like most people carry at least one more mag, possibly two. That's what I'm doing. And I asked this way up there, but since it's cold again, should you switch out mags every day or week that you have sit in your car? How reliable are cold bullets?![]()
Once a month or so I shoot the ammo in the gun and move the stored ammo from the truck to the gun.
From my 5 shot revolver that has me shooting a box of carry ammo a year. That does not cost a lot, keeps fresh ammo always in the gun, and in the spare mags. I have not had any ammo issues doing this.
This is only for carried ammo. properly stored ammo will outlast you and your kids.
When My grandfather passed in 1967 he left my dad a 1911 and a box of factory loaded mags [dated 1950] that were surplus from the Korean war. When Dad passed in 2012, I found those same factory loaded mags in a box at the bottom of his closet. So 62 years after they were loaded.
Every one of the mags fed correctly, and all the ammo shot like new. But it was kept in a temp controlled home, and away from sunlight.
You will probably be OK just rotating carry ammo once or twice a year. I just do it my way because it becomes a habit. Good Luck DR
