I was shocked to see an ad right here on this website from Brownell's, showing a sale they are currently having on Walther handguns.

My carry pistol is a first generation Walther PPS that I got 8 years ago shortly after it came on the market. This is a real quality, well made handgun, that I just love to death for its size, ergonomics, and accuracy.

But my eyes just about popped open, when I saw that Walter was not only now selling the 2nd generation of the gun for much less money, but also offering a rebate on top of that too! With the rebate, the price of this fine German made handgun comes all the way down to $299!! That is literally HALF of what I paid for the first generation model of the very same pistol 8 years ago!!

How is this possible? Is competition in the gun industry getting to the point, where companies are lowering their prices in order to stay competitive?

I've seen prices for many AR rifles coming down significantly, making them more affordable than ever these days. But are we now seeing handgun prices being affected too?? Is simply supply and demand driving this situation? Supposedly, gun sales continue to remain at a very high level in our country.

Is it normal to see occasional good sales like this one?

Companies ramped up production before the election in the event Hillary won and started banning guns. They figured there would be a huge run on them and they wanted to have the stock to sell. Since Trump won there is no longer a fear of Illegal gun control so the companies and dealers need to dump their stocks. Enjoy the low prices and buy, buy, buy. I know I am.

I think what has happened is they (they being the gun industry) are trying everything they can to keep gross numbers up to where they where before Trump took office. They are trying to keep stock holders and board members happy.

The reality is across the board the only way to keep the numbers up is to sell stuff at fire sale prices, offer big rebates and promotions. People are just not motivated to spend money on guns like they have been in years past.

I think we will see even cheaper prices. I also think that as a whole its bad for the firearms industry. Most gun owners are happy. They see ammo prices they remember from 10 years ago, They see shelves stocked with gear. What they don't see is company's struggling, laying off folks and already in some cases filing bankruptcy

I have taken advantage of a lot of "cheap" deals in the last 6 months but at this point I an pretty tapped out and even though I would like a few more things they are wants not needs. I suspect there are a lot of folks in the same boat, getting deal fatigue and spent dry on firearms related stuff.

What's going on right now is far from "normal". This is a take advantage of it now time. Before the last election is was a "given" that Hillary was going to win. Pretty much everyone expected at best more of the odumbo anti gun policies. At worst she would pound more laws. Everyone ramp'd up production for not only the panic shortages but fully expecting more. Well many were VERY shocked when Trump cleaned up. Now all of a sudden the shortage not only came to an end, many who were stocking up suddenly wanted to unload stuff on the market. I have not seen prices like this in decades. The market will catch up eventually and price will go up a little. It is a buyers market right now.

Just saw this pop up in the upper right corner on this thread :D

However - none of this seems to be affecting the classic/collectible gun market and in fact may be helping it as prices of certain guns (especially pre-lock or earlier S & Ws) have taken an up-turn recently. Colt Pythons are at an all time high also. I suspect people seeing the 'new' market take a dump might be focusing on certain higher-end guns or collectibles with no real 'fear' of any new laws affecting availability of newer guns thinking they will always be around and available - for now.

The gougers gouged when there was panic, now the circle has just about hit 360°.

ahem, that would be a 180°. Some day it will turn another 180° and we'll be complaining about the gouging again.

I've bought two more guns this year, both on sale. Neither was in the Obama/Clinton crosshairs, but I'm back to getting what I find most attractive rather than buying what might be banned. And while I shook off a couple calibers in recent years to focus all ammo buying on the seven most essential for me, I'm now about to expand the range again - this time more heavily influenced by the interest of grandkids.

I have a PPS-M2 that i bought in November for $437 but it was the LE version.
I think the regular version was in the 390's

The sub compact, single stack carry market is extremely competitive and that Walther is kicking all the other's a$$es.
The rebate thing is I think to kick their a$$es a little extra good and make 'em like it.
I've seen it as low as $256 for the standard rig.

Sales are down and several mfrs have rebates running now.

It's kinda difficult to generalize. I seem to be seeing the big discounting on primarily the mass-market polymer guns, entry-level stuff. Guns like the Sig 938 still seem to be about the same... down a bit, but given the age of the models, not bad.
Maybe the materials cost (oil?) and efficiencies of manufacturing are also in play.

What I'd like to know... why do the ones I want, only go on sale after I buy 'em?o_O

Buy low, sell high.

If you have the wherewithal and you need something, now is the time to get it. The way Trump's admin is rolling, there is a good chance there will be a shift in the 2018 congressional elections. There may even be enough to get him impeached sooner then that.

Buy while you can if you need it - especially if you need something likely to get banned.

Stuff I want are still going up...

I guess that's just what happens when you don't get to buy stuff when they were dirt cheap, if not cheaper, and being imported. Thanks Bush Sr. :(

Not when you consider the "tether-ball theorem". See, when you spike the ball away from you a cunning opponent will fake the block and let it go by thus letting the tether-ball hit you in the back of the head.... see? 360°

.... you THINK you know me! o_O

The laws of supply and demand always work in a capitalistic economy. Hell... they even work in a socialist and communist economy. Food in Venezuela is pretty dam expensive right now if you can even find it and China isn't even communist, there Prime Minister or whatever leader they have sure as hell isnt getting the same rations and pay as the rest of the country so that ain't communism.

Anyway, I bought a Keltec RFB and a Tavor SAR during the Obama presidency and if I didn't get to have a blast shooting them until now it would make me kick my own butt to think about the money I would have saved had I bought them now instead. However, things could have gone quite differently at any moment with laws coming out the tube and the election. I could have been very happy I got them when I could. So in that regard, I am very happy I overpaid compared to now because it means for 4 years we don't have crooked Hillary as President.

Yeah, I'm pretty broke at the moment... I keep buying tons of stuff I want. The stuff I really want is still out of my price range, but hey, it's something to strive for! LoL
Hearing about this deal tho, I may have to start looking at walthers again.
Ruger and sig have seen the most of my money so far.

Really, it's the industries' fault for playing into fear and taking advantage of a crazy market. If your eyes are bigger than your belly, then you deserve heartburn.

I'm glad prices are what they should be, allows more people to participate.

My only real question is, do I have to buy through Brownell's to get the rebate? (Silly and I doubt it, but better to be sure LoL)

This is a temporary blip on the radar. Take advantage now because prices will go back up again. This is just a market correction as @IronMonster noted above, equalizing inventory produced in anticipation of a Hillary win and trying to keep money rolling in. Eventually they will have to make some cuts to production to keep costs at bay, and while I hate to see folks losing jobs, it's just part of the economy. We go through ups and downs, hiring and releasing employees all the time - it's the norm in the construction industry.

Fact is that gun control, or at least the threat of it, has been great for the gun industry. But if the R's in congress keep acting like incompetent boons that ignore promises made and simply can't get things done, even with a full majority, well don't worry, the Dems will be back in power soon enough and we'll be right back to where we were the last 8 years.

Enjoy the low prices, while you can. This definitely won't last.

Now if only prices would drop on those darn PTR-91's o_O
