Standing, shooting straight out, about how far will a 9mm (115 gr) travel. Nothing in the way just how far will it go? How about a 40 SW (124 gr)?

If the bullet leaves the bore at 1200 fps, then it will hit the ground at 671 feet.

but that is if its fired from a standard height target what if he/she was a "little person" then it would hit the ground at a lower distances, right?

Assuming a little person shot straight out, yup it would hit the ground sooner.

You probably need to study a ballistics chart to understand how a particular bullet, at a particular velocity and elevation, reacts. Even wind, humidy and temperature can effect trajectory. I really do admire army snipers who take the fundamentals to a whole new level. Fascinating!!!!!!!!!
