How do I "work up a load"?

Off topic, sorry.<br />
Curious here what gun, powder, bullet weight your doing. I've been doing .45 for a 1911 and always started with minimum powder, and through 500 or so rounds have never had a FTE. I've done just fine staying in the lower half of the rcomended amounts in 9mm and recently .40.<br />

Everyones experience is different. With a p220 carry, extreme 230 rn plated bullets and universal, I made it to .2 grains below max before I got consistent ejection with a velocity average of 680 fps, WAY below where the book says it should be.

I'm currently at .1 grains over max, consistent ejection patterns and recoil nearly identical to WWB. Hopefully I will get to chrono them this weekend to verify velocity.
