So i'm currently exploring places to move away to (would be my first time living alone.) If i were to move to Oregon, Im kind of interested in these areas. What are they like? How gun/knife friendly are they?

The Ip 17 crap kind of has me hesitant about Oregon though.

Portland regularly has spontaneous gun and knife demonstrations. Just look for the orange traffic barrels.

There are tons of CA residents who have migrated to these areas you mentioned, but haven't changed their mindsets and this shows through votes.

How's that compare to CA though?

Good luck finding a place in Corvallis or Bend.

Check housing first.

The farther you get from Portland the redder the area becomes EXCEPT FOR Corvallis, Bend, Eugene, and Ashland. Fully blue.

so like redmond, prineville are less weird? Ive never been to Eastern Oregon honestly, only the coast and around Interstate 5, and that was over 10 years ago.
East and west sides of Oregon are vastly different climate wise, and many other ways too, so it might be worth your time to visit and see what you like and don't like. Personally, I don't think I'd care for extreme temperature differences they experience on the east side, but some people love it.

Lots of great areas around the Portland metro area without having to live in Portland. I would take a look at some of the places in Yamhill county like Newberg. While Corvallis may be blue, the city and surrounding area are a great place to live. Low crime, good folks and at the door step of the coast and mountains with surrounding farmland. Bend is the same way, good place to visit or be close to but wouldn't live in the actual city. Would be looking for a place in Prineville, La Pine, etc...

Portland is an ever increasingly expensive city to live in and that doesn't appear to be changing. Real estate is expensive, rent is expensive, Oregon has a lot of taxes, car insurance is expensive (I'll save $1400/yr insuring 2 15+ year old vehicles when I move out of state in 2 months), dining out is very expensive and the citizens keep voting for more taxes (with little measurable positive effect).

If socialist government policies, little rule of law, limited and decreasing police services, a growing population of P2P meth addicted homeless defiling nearly every portion of town, record murder and violent crime rates and rapidly deteriorating roads are attractive then Portland might be of interest.

Just my view after 50 years a resident of the city and state. Sadly, I can't wait to leave.

honestly it sounds a lot like where i currently live (Los Angeles), but maybe less of a gang problem, plus guns and auto knives are allowed there, for now. im also considering AZ and NV. I was considering Montana but its hard to find anything in the nicer parts of the state.

Additionally, if 2A is important to you Oregon government is working hard to match every infringement on that natural right implemented by Washington and California.

Gangs are an issue in Portland and their deadly activity has escalated significantly over the past 2 years with no end in sight. Portland's murder rate increased 266% from 2019. 2022 will likely set another record for death by criminal action.

Oregon has some great places to live but the voters in Portland are overwhelmingly liberal democrats and their voice carries the state during elections. Their representatives carry the day on laws and policies which deeply affect Oregonians across the state, leaving much of Oregon feeling locked out of the process. Oregon government frequently ignores the will of the people further alienating citizens who did vote.

Finally, Oregon and Washington will face the devastating consequences of a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake which will dwarf, in Geographic size, economic scope, deaths, injuries and destruction, any pervious natural disaster in the Western Hemisphere in recorded history. This 9.0 quake occurs with some regularity between every 300 to 500 years. The last one occurred in 1700. This is a major reason for my leaving Oregon-as I age I do not want to be here when it happens.

My best wishes for you in your search for a new home

I wouldnt move here.

I am trying to GTFO as fast as i can. I am not alone in that pursuit.

Pick one of your other choices and start looking there. Oregon is the missing link in the liberal wall of 3rd world s**t holes that the current dim/lib ruling parties want to achieve.

This sums it up for me, too. F' this place, I can hardly wait to bail.

Edit. Sorry, all the more reason to move E of the Cascades, maybe even E of the Rockies, due to Yellowstone Caldera's possible hydrothermal explosions/events. Despite what media says about the Caldera itself, the Geologic Society scientists says the risks are overblown, and the fact that the Yellowstone Plateau has risen over 8 inches one year, and has been rising between 2.5-3 inches a year isn't an indication of an incoming eruption. There are several features that seems to be releasing some of the volcanic pressures, namely the hydrothermal spots like Old Faithful geyser and the like.

Prineville gets you into crook county and out of dechutes county, and you are a 20 minute drive to the Redmond airport if you want to fly, yet out of the high taxes of the Bend area. but not much for housing and prices are high. ( when BLM came to Prineville to protest a couple of years ago, the locals ran them off.. YES! LOL )
