A high school newspaper's survey about gun ownership took on a life of its own over the weekend, but only this morning, courtesy of The Blaze, was there a reality check on the discussion that Examiner was able to confirm by contacting the Texas school district where this story originated.

As crazy as this is, it's hardly surprising in the age of social media. Things spread like wildfire, especially after a shooting event. The gun barrels are hardly cool by the time legislators are advocating for more gun control, etc.

Obviously a different story in this case, but nonetheless another example of how important it is to verify sources, learn the facts and confirm what the reality is behind the story before we react too harshly.
