Representative Elizabeth Esty (D-CT) is pushing legislation to require licenses for handgun owners throughout the United States.
The legislation, HR 5490, is titled the "Handgun Purchaser Licensing Act."

HR 5490 would not only require licenses but would also provide federal grants to help states cover the expense of a licensing program.

The bill is based on the inaccurate claim that "33,000 Americans were killed by guns" in 2013. Hillary Clinton made this claim again and again during her failed 2016 campaign, and Breitbart News showed that her claims actually exaggerated "gun violence" deaths by 66 percent.

In reality, the number of accidental deaths was 505, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported the number of deaths due to actual "gun violence" was 11,208. The number of suicides was 21,175. When Clinton spoke, she would combine homicides, accidental deaths, and suicides as if all were the result of "gun violence" and present a death toll of 33,000. Rep. Esty is doing the same thing.

Esty's legislation would authorize the "Attorney General … to award grants to States, units of local government, and Indian tribes for the development, implementation, and evaluation of handgun purchaser licensing requirements." And it stipulates that such a license would only be good for five years, after which, the gun owner would have to go through a re-licensing process in order to retain his or her ability to own a handgun.

I've heard Antis who, when confronted with the fact that this 33k+ number is bogus b/c it contains suicide numbers, say that it should contain those numbers because they are all about ending deaths. Period.

Should that counterargument come up, this resource shows that in many countries with stricter gun laws than the US, the suicide rate is the same as, or even higher than, it is here. In other words, the 33k number is bogus whether you are talking about gun deaths or deaths in general, and gun banning won't achieve the stated goal (it will just make suicide more torturous).

Why not license the criminals that commit gun crimes & lock them up for life¿¿¿:mad::mad:,
Leave us law abiding citizens the EFFF ALONE!!!!

I'm still trying to figure out why it is that all these gun laws are proposed to keep the guns out of the hands of the people we know are bad?? WTF??! Why the hell are people like that out on the street in the first place? If they're known to be bad, lock them up and keep them there! Holy sh!t it's such an easy f@#king concept. SMFH.

Gun laws aren't meant to solve problems, we already have all personal and all property crimes covered.

These are only meant to make it so arduous that owning/carrying becomes more trouble than it's worth. IMO

But..but...how can that be??!! The left want to emulate Austrailia and their anti-gun laws... But Austrailia has more deaths than the US??!! Oh dear.... Their heads are going to explode...

They are letting them out to make room for us!!!

License:[ C ] an official document that gives you permission to own, do, or use something:

So, she thinks citizens require permission from the State to exercise their enumerated Constitutional rights. How about passing a qualification test before getting a license to breed children? That would do FAR more good towards improving society and safety. How about a license to exercise free speech? How about a license to exercise the 5th amendment while we're at it?

Frakin' MORON!!

As for the first part of your post, I qualify Stomper to write the test for said licensing.;)

What we are witnessing is the use of the first amendment against the second. Since that is subversive by its very nature, and has spawned the entire "fake news" phenomenon, I propose the following. So that Americans may be truthfully informed:

1. Registration and licensing of all journalism programs and professors in all public primary and secondary schools.
2. Registration and licensing, with federal oversight, of all mainstream media outlets as to corporate ownership, funding sources, internal governance and political position.
3. Licensing and registration of media reporters, whether radio, TV or print/online.
4. The establishment of the Federal Truth Administration to perform fact checking on media reports, with regulatory authority over mainstream media.
5. Civil and criminal sanctions for those found to abuse or otherwise violate the first amendment.

EDIT: I would modify the above to add a "Red Flag" reporting system so that those in public life, whether legislators or journalists, could be reported by family or concerned citizens who felt that they could not be trusted to accurately represent the public or truthfully report the news.

How far does anyone think that would go? Yet, which amendment assures the first amendment stands?
