My comment was in reference to your "makes you wonder why they became nurses" statement. People typically take the medical field route to save lives, but that usually stops when death is on the line, their death for choosing a typically safe profession.
Which is why I referenced @wp4 's story, nothing more. Is it your intent to take me out of context? I've qualified both my statements referring to his statement alone.

When this crisis finally passes there will be many wonderful things, like the massive death tolls no longer being a thing, no more quarantines, less concern about the most vulnerable among us with respect to this illness, the economy recovering, etc. Also, NWFA can go back to being about, you know, guns, hunting, enjoying and protecting our rights, the outdoors, joyful things, et al. Those days can not come soon enough. :s0155:

61,000 flu deaths is 167 deaths per day, 1,800 people died in the US yesterday, that's 657,000 people in a year if you assume that the numbers aren't exponential; hint, they are.....
Thanks for the maths, but you divided 61k/365 when the flu season was 4 months. No bigs, we already beat this dead horse

What scares me is when this crisis has passed the people who want control will have learned from this. They put out some scary stuff and people lined up to give up their rights with no thought. Promise them a little money and they are willing to give up rights. These rights so easily given up will be hard to get back now that people have lined up to show those in power how easy it is to get people to be controlled.

Yes, it is. Light the torches, get out the lime. Gonna be some dirty work ahead, but no need to tank the economy.
Those who are unsanitary or unlucky will get sick, some will die.
Insensitive, yes.
At this point it's probably too late. Those who want control have seen the vast majority are willing to give up rights if you scare them a little. People have tried to force Socialism on us for decades. Now they found out where they went wrong. Just scare people and they lined up to say yet to Government control of everything. When they wake up and want rights back it's way too late sadly. :(

no need to tank the economy.

The world economy was doomed to crash from the first patient that ate the bat, shutdown or not. And we can definitely blame CHY-NA for letting it escape, thus tanking the world economy!
We had the longest bull market in history, it was bound to reset sooner or later. I don't know how one thinks it would've magically kept going during a 100 year pandemic event.

Oh ya, it would've been fine cuz this is just a cold.

I'm gonna do my best @ma96782 impression:
Rrrrrright.

I hope we all can remain internetz buddies when this passes. Been to many forums and am a proud veteran of late '90s and 2000s flame wars , but have not found a more (fairly) respectable bunch than here at NWFA :s0112:

Where are you getting your information, or should I believe you without asking?

Please show me how I am wrong as you claim. I've been wrong before and am not above being wrong again.
Thanks.

If your honest intention is to satisfy your query.. Here's a link to an article with a bunch of simple graphs to help educate you on the matter.

It's my understanding that you're attempting (in this thread) to minimize this pandemic as no worse than a bad flu season. Am I wrong in that judgment?

If not, your thinking could be no further from the truth, and is ignorant at best, foolish at worst.

I liken it to the people that jokingly belittle 22lr and whether it can even break skin. I've yet to see anyone willing to go down range 25 yards and take a few center-mass.

I encourage anyone willing to roll the dice with Covid-19, to go right ahead.

The flu that "almost killed" you a few years ago...Well let's simply state, nobody dead ever gave two bubblegums about a trough in the economy.

Hey man, you may think I look like a douche, walk like a douche, and quack like a douche, but listen - I still think your pretty cool!

Glad to be sharing the internet bits with ya! :D

Oh hell yeah. This is just a litmus test to see how far they can go and what it will take and a way to judge public reaction to various levels of governmental control and as to ho w it was implemented.

The various agencies can look at what new restriction can we come up with today based upon the false and inaccurate date provided by the state or other governmental agency.

The good to come out of this is that maybe the sheep will finally see how crooked, what liars the main stream media really is. With Twitter you can follow he government agencies and others for yourself and then make up your own mind if what they are saying is bullsh*t or not.

The normal azz kissing media to the liberal Governor is even starting to wonder if they are not getting fed a complete line of sh*t too.

You said your understanding is that I am attempting to minimize CV in this thread, as well as some other veiled insults towards me for daring to ask...

Wrong. Respectfully, it appears you have simply not taken a moment to read and understand what I typed.

Why do I say that? Because you posted 2020 flu vs CV stats when I never compared or commented on those stats.

The link you just shared says: 'At least 6,800 people in the US have died as of Friday'...assuming that was last Friday?

My POINT which you are not alone in overlooking is that I mentioned 2017-2018 USA flu deaths at 61,000 as compared to, well, the latest USA death stats you directed me to of 6,800. That is approx 10%

Am I marginalizing these deaths?
No, far from it.

What you appear to have missed is that I was questioning why the response this time is greater than 2017-2018

Of all our members here, Bolus understood what I was asking and gave a great response.

What I got from others, like you, was something more insulting in nature...one went so far as to suggest I should go get the virus.

Nice way to be excellent. No need to reply, I have my answer thanks to @bolus

This ain't no trough. We collided with a ship named ChiComm.
They may be listing, but we went down by the head and are at the bottom of the Atlantic Trench with the Titanic.
Meanwhile, the deck bosuns are preaching to remain calm and stay in our cabins.
It's like an old Sven and Ole joke.
