The Clintons were incensed when Republicans allowed Bill's 1994 Assault Weapons Ban to expire. They had made it only temporary for 10 years because they had originally planned to STRENGTHEN it, and make the restrictions much more severe in 2004. They were both absolutely horrified when instead the law was allowed to expire.

One can bet that bringing back the Assault Weapons Ban ( which included a ban on high cap magazines ) will be a key goal of her Presidency.

California, which is totally under Democratic control, will no doubt be the role model for future Federal anti-gun legislation. Their gun control bureaucracy just continues to grow and grow.

This new bill SB 347 currently in the California legislature to enact 10 year bans on people owning firearms for committing 10 different non-violent California misdemeanors is no doubt a signal of where the anti-gun movement will go next in their attempt to further restrict gun ownership.

It is no surprise at all to me that mere possession of an unregistered firearm is one of the misdemeanors included in the bill's list, that will then invoke the punishment of a 10 year gun possession ban.

All of our CALIFORNIA Firearm Restrictions of the last 19 years have been passed by "STRICT PARTY LINE VOTE" . You guys have to choose ONE of the two viable Political Parties we have for the near future.

Maybe if YOU people from California would stop infecting the northwest. What we need to do is cut off California from the rest of the country and leave you Californians to your own failed decisions. Like all Californians, you tell everyone else how things should be while your own state is a cesspool.

I understand the frustration with seeing your state go to the dogs.. And California has had more than a small political effect on the PNW and has seemed to become an archetype for what the modern liberal would like to model their future state governments on, but the problem with current political environment and socialist agenda motives stems much deeper than what could simply be imported over state lines. Scapegoats blind you from the big picture and the real enemy and we don't have the luxury of ignorance if we plan to stand a chance.

The indoctrination of the U.S. Education system has been in full effect for the past two decades + and now many young native Oregonians and Washingtonians are voting the way they were taught by teachers and "Society" and state Native politicians push harder and harder to solidify this as the "Left Coast" with East Coast $$$ and no ties to California... This is a National problem, but the Antis have learned that their money and influence can have much more effect on the state level than national, pushing their agenda one state at a time....

Blanket statements like the one above alienate potential allies and voters for the upcoming fight rather than bringing them into the fold and to our side where every vote and voice will be needed in upcoming elections. I welcome citizens from any other state in the union including "Commiefornia" to help us fight for our 2A rights and bring a more balanced political system back to the PNW. UNITE!

President Woodrow Wilson was the 28th President of the United States from 1913 to 1921 and leader of the Progressive Movement. It's been going on more than a couple of decades but there does seem to be a quickening of things.

I would welcome them as well Quacky if it were not in a hostile manner. If you read most of his posts in the legal & political section it's always hostile and demeaning.

Maybe you just don't understand how things are here in Oregon. The Democrats have a super-majority in our legislature. They can pass ANYTHING they want on a straight party vote. You can hate them all you want and support the Republicans all you like, and bills like SB941 will still pass unless we get some Democrats to vote "NO". So your partisan ranting makes little sense. Cutting ourselves off from anyone simply because they disagree on taxes or social programs GUARANTEES we will lose.

Frankly, your combative attitude is counter-productive. You're the reason we're losing.

Californians have infected Nevada too. Nevada used to be a solid Republican state, but voted for Obama in both 2008 and 2012.

Well, but it is actually the intense partisanship on the part of the Democratic Party that is the reason that we are losing. Democratic office holders are pressed into supporting the Party line. The Party does not allow any real dissent within its ranks. I've seen this first hand here locally in Lane County. We had one very liberal progressive city councilwoman here, who was vilified horribly by local party officials, when she disagreed with the party's position on some local tax proposals ( which voters actually ended up defeating badly anyway ). While she is very liberal and progressive on social issues, she has always been a conservative on fiscal issues, and making government live within its means, and especially not waste money. In any event, overnight, she was branded as being a Scarlet Woman, worthy of being burned alive at a stake. I could not believe the things that people started to say about her, including ugly personal attacks. And all just because she opposed new taxes that the people ended up voting down anyway by a 2-1 majority.

That is why Oregon now has so many registered independents. Many have left BOTH parties, because both parties have become partisan political machines that don't allow any dissent within the ranks.

Being a Democrat today is very much like being a Nazi in Nazi Germany. One is not truly part of the party, unless you always yell SIEG HEIL and salute the Fuhrer!

The thing is in a blue state, liberal gun owners need to be embraced rather than bubblegumed at by some hateful jackass from California. Democrats will gave MUCH more impact on Democrat politicians then Republic or Independents. People need to realize that we live in a blue stare because of the Willamette Valley. Living in some fantasy land where the state is suddenly Republican controlled is idiotic.

There is a lot of truth to what you say. I left the Republican party because I've been so pissed off at them for so many years for making such dumba$$ decisions and ignoring their voting base. The do what they want and only get re-elected by telling folks that they're better than the D's. While that may be true in some areas, such as the 2A, they flat out suck in many others. I couldn't believe that Boehner was made speaker again - as I recall, in excess of 70% of Republican voters wanted him gone. But, as usual, politicians ignore the voters when votes aren't on the line.

The D's and the R's have both thoroughly pissed me off. They bow to party leadership, leadership that is governed by money and power. You are correct that dissent is very much controlled. They will allow some dissent for those in areas where they may lose a seat otherwise, but they won't allow enough dissent to turn things around - they will make sure they have their majority and allow a few to 'save face' with their voters by appearing to vote against the party line. Only a very few will actually stand up and fight against their own party - but they are out there. And there is no better example of how quickly your own party, your own best buddies, your long-time pals will toss you in the trash as the example of how Kitzhaber was tossed to the curb by his own party, publicly. Instead of standing up for their once strong political ally, when they saw potential backlash from the people as a result of his corruption, they threw him to the wolves. He hadn't even been charged with a crime, they just didn't want to deal with him.

What I'm happy to see right now are the recalls going here in Oregon. I'm very pleased to see some good folks taking it to these bozos in Salem. Now the politicians are in a hard place - either tow the party line or risk a recall - and both have potentially long term consequences for their political career. If the voters can exert more pressure than the politicians on each other, then maybe, just maybe, we can turn things around. I still believe we have a chance to make gun control toxic to these folks. Every bill that comes up and moves forward should become a reason for recall. If even a few recalls are successful, they may just dump the whole thing for fear of being one of those chosen for recall. It's probably too late for SB 941, but who knows what may be coming down the road. Voter involvement is probably the only real chance we have to send a very clear message to Salem that we won't sit back and be bullied.
