My reason is aging & arthritis, I've shot a 10mm handgun and did not find it pleasing so it's not getting into my Arsenal.

One of the virtues of the 10mm is that it's very versatile. You don't have to load bone-jarring loads. It can be loaded down to 40 S&W specs if you want soft loads.

Just don't load them too hot!

Agreed. Sturdiness of the round depends upon what components are used. As one example, I've found that Winchester primers sometimes don't hold up to certain loads. And here I'm not talking about upper end loads, either. I've also found that using faster propellants with heavier bullets isn't the best idea.

Have you tried the older Winchester primers with chrome cup?

I haven't had any of those for quite a while. All mine have been yellow, non-plated.

I've had some trouble with WW primers since they went away from plating. Some bad fit (too small) WW LR. Some pressure failed in LP (leaked). I won't buy any more WW. My primer buys in recent years have largely been CCI. I bought some S&B when Cabela's was selling those, they were fine.

For a woods carry load, I use a 220 gr lazer cast on top of 13.4 grains of Blue Dot, it's a very stout load, so not sure if your pistol can take such. For urban carry, the 180 gr Golden Sabers are my go to, again, on top of 13.6 grains Blue Dot makes for a super nasty load, again, make sure your pistol can take such, my Glock G-20 cannot with out the always present "Glock Smiley" being very pronounced! For factory loads, Grizzly Ammo makes a pretty stout 200 gr hard cast load that's very accurate and clocks in around 1200 FPS, and Hornady Critical Defense with it's 180 gr load is also pretty good. I have had good results with the SIG V-Crown 180 gr loads as well, with the best accuracy of all the factory ammo I have even tried!
Getting back into 10mm always pursuing hottest possible load. Just because :)
I'm curious how you came up with your loads and under what conditions you tested them? It sounds like you used the factory Glock barrel. Do you have any more data to share?
I stopped at 12 grains BD under 180gr XTP. Tested in Gen 3 G20 w 4.6" LW barrel. I couldn't even get it up to1300fps. Then I took some time off shooting/reloading.

What recoil spring rate are you running?
I was running a 22# in mine worked fine for 180's in any load up to 1400(ish)fps. I ran into trouble and maxed out the slide and frame a few times shooting the heavier stuff 200gn XTP's with PP around 1200(ish) on the 22# ISMI spring.
Wish i had the 24# preloaded onto one of my spare RSA's.

Thats also out of a 6.61" threaded g40 barrel. So your numbers may not match exactly. Keep that in mind

Ive also heard the sig stuff is pretty darn hot for factory loads. On the upper end.

The only way to truly get what you want is to roll your own ;)

Im using a LW barrel as well. When you topped out at 1300 what was the limiting factor?
I was also using starline brass and fed GMM non magnum primers. Not much pressure signs. Pockets still tight.

If NEED be you MIGHT be able to get away with or at least look into using 10mm mag brass and trim it down it will have less case cap than reg 10mm auto so be WARNED download accordingly.

Should be able to get there though. If not with BD try Power Pistol.

I forgot about this thread, having already lost interest in the Ten and wandered away to other things.
10 is a sweetheart, Its sad to see you go! ;) maybe the most versatile pistol round out there. IMO.

Going down the .460 rowland rabbit hole now. Just finally ordered some starline .45+P the last peice of the puzzle!
If this works.. This is going to be RE TARD ED! With the .45 kriss mags i got and a 8.75" barrel :s0108:
Glocks: the Hondas of the gun world! :s0112:

Sell the pistol already?

10 is a great cartridge, but like 6.5, it has a cult following that makes it seem better than it really is. It is also really a reloaders cartridge. Factory ammo is either anemic or $$$$ specialty.

A nice 40 call with good ammo can be just as good, with more capacity.

And not I'll wait to get my head chopped off....

Come on in, the kool aid is great! ;)
Idk about more capacity? Arent they typically always the exact same seeing how .40 and 10 are same diameter?
I don't think im buying that ice.
I highly doubt "just as good either"
Unless your talking the run of the mill stuff. But yeah it is a reloaders case and im happy with that. Whatever gives me an edge.

Personally im REALLY hoping this 7.5FK BRNO round takes off (and similar rounds) that could be amazing. Love thats its based off 10 and comes with a barrel.
If i ever get the chance to buy one of those i think i would.
They need to release the patent or royalties or whatever to gain a real market foot hold. Ammo is to expensive as is. But if you could just resize 10mm and buy the right weight 7.5's... "shawwwing"
That BRNO pistol looks like a absolute peach too!

You generally get same capacity as the smaller pistols, but in a larger 45 framed gun. So ok, I'll give you that one. Bigger gun same capacity.

I chronographed a lot of factory ammo out of my G20. Most was about the same, and some weaker, than average 40 ammo. The specialty stuff was better. Reloads were best. Newer ammo might be different, but when I did 10, factory was almost laughable to what the 10 is talked up to be.

personal use of 40 in speed steel & bowling pins was simply unsatisfactory. After some year, switched to 10mm. Considerable improvement in accuracy & ballistic performance.

i think recently in the last year year or two factories have FINALLY been stepping up a bit realizing people buy this cal. because they actually WANT a more stout loading. NOT .40 cal. equiv. that would be totally pointless.
so i agree.. just had to rib ya little :)

Some recent chronographing . This was 5-6' of the muzzle. I'm pretty happy with the final sets. Feels like I could have gone further. Disclaimer - I'm not really experienced in chronographing and I'm not sure how accurate the Caldwell shooting chrono is.
