Didn't the little children, with the direction or the clergy and Democrats try to force a five round magazine bill down our throats, with a ban on all semi auto firearms? It appears they are putting their stupid hats on now. Last I heard that Red tag law will likely be determined not enforceable, but this one will mean control over millions of magazines that there is no known record of. Haven't heard of a single crime avoided by limiting the number of rounds a magazine will hold. I'm sure criminals will count each round.

I like Brad Witt. Just goes to show that not all Democrats are caught up in this anti-gun sensationalism and many in fact stand behind the 2nd amendment as well.
Hopefully more will see what this road looks like and it gives them pause enough to see the facts.

This barrage of bills feels like a coordinated attack.

I bet $1000 this was all decided somewhere behind closed doors sometime last year... The plan was to bum rush our position with bills en masse and see how many can make it.

Probably another political scheme (see: "Intersectionality") conceived by academics.
Like OUR esteemed late PATRIOT
Dennis Richardson coming down with fatal brain cancer. Thanks for headphones TAINT BROWN......PRAYERS TO HIS FAMILY AND ALL OF US WHO NEEDED HIS PROTECTION

Jeff,

Rep. Gorsek has concerns about the extreme positions on both sides. Generally he wants there to be some oversite when people have an adjudication for domestic violence but with due process. He is also wants there to be some enforcement when people do not personal responsibility for securing firearms.

As for restrictions on magazine size, aesthetics or purchase restrictions on ammunition; they all seem like overreach and he wouldn't support it. We're all gun owners in the office and aren't really into trafficking in fear based responses whatever the issue.

I think you will find any of the bills that report out of committee will conform to the court's (Justice Scalia's) opinion in DC v. Heller.

Link to the opinion;

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA v. HELLER

I hope this fleshes out Rep. Gorsek's perspective in a way that satisfies your questions.

Regards,

~J

I knew Gorsek was a common sense kind of guy. I'm a pretty good judge of character and I studied under him for 2 terms in 2004 at MHCC.

Any agency that advocates for the confiscation of property or imprisonment of it's owner is NOT fighting against violence but is rather ADVOCATING for violence. They are okay to send armed men to your door to disarm you. Sheer hypocrisy.

This is the bottom line. A Socialist government that wants to stay in power after their flawed system begins to fail has to resort to violence to do so. Maduro in Venezuela is doing it right now in front of our eyes via the media, and the Socialist Left in America still thinks it'll never happen here even as the anti-gun libs continue using crime as a smokescreen to get ahead of the people-control curve.

Talking points to use when writing to your legislators.

Talking about freedom or the Second Amendment to most lawmakers falls on deaf ears. They sincerely don't think they are infringing on anyone's freedom or the Second Amendment with their "common sense" gun control proposals. You have to come up with practical reasons why the proposed law is a bad idea. When you write to your representatives drive home four points:

  1. Over 15,000 rank and file cops were polled on various gun control measures. Police officers overwhelmingly said laws limiting magazine capacity would not reduce violent crime. PoliceOne's Gun Control Survey: 11 key lessons from officers' perspectives

  2. Magazine capacity laws do not prevent mass shootings. California has had a ban on "large capacity" magazines for many years and continues to have mass shootings, including the Thousand Oaks shooting, the San Bernardino shooting, and the Oikos University shooting in just the past 6 years. The Parkland, FL school shooter did not use "large capacity" magazines. Report: Parkland Shooter Did Not Use High Capacity Magazines | National Review
  3. Law-abiding citizens need "large capacity" magazines for the same reason police officers use them: for self-defense. Studies have shown in a high stress life-or-death self-defense shooting even police officers miss with most of their shots A Hail of Bullets, a Heap of Uncertainty Those extra rounds in a "large capacity" magazine can mean the difference between life and death for a citizen in a self-defense shooting, especially since they lack the advantages of body armor, backup, and radios that police have. If police with those advantages need "large capacity" magazines, citizens need them even more.
  4. A "large capacity" magazine is nothing more than a plastic or metal tube with a spring inside.

They aren't much different in construction from this:

They are not inherently dangerous, hazardous, or toxic. They are not weapons in contrast to knives, hammers, baseball bats, and other common household items. We should not criminalize mere possession of harmless items.
This could make a good flyer at the Rally. Maybe shorten some sections up a bit so it all fits on one page.

I emailed and I also just became a member of OFF :)
Knebel & group,
I assume that OFF (nice parody) means Oregon Firearms Federation? Which organization is the most active when it comes to gun rights & the loss there of, anyone? Or am I just being lazy and need to look elsewhere on this site for answers that already exist?

I think Gun owners of America is very active on a federal level. I just expect Oregon Firearms Federation to be fighting more if a "local" fight against this!

Announced today on Fox news, banning of high capacity magazines by California law is declared unlawful by the court. Look how long this took to go through the system, and how many were made outlaws and felons by owning magazines banned by law, and now the charges were illegal. How will those magazines be returned or the people of California be compensated that lost their property or had it taken from them? I would imagine there may still be cases pending? I wonder how many cases it will take to get overturned and money spent before the demented law makers stop their attacks. I guess if it is being funded by someone with very deep pockets, it is likely the battle is unending.

When the ban gets tossed by the USSC it will apply nation wide, not just to CA. We can only hope it gets there and that Roberts doesn't betray us.

Oregon Firearms Federation works the hardest locally. I've also seen work from the Oregon Outdoor Council. Nationally it's Gun Owners of America and Firearms Policy Coalition.....and occasionally NRA-ILA
