WOW, I just started reading this thread, and Im glad for you that it will come to some sort of conclusion. Hooray for justice, they should let you give this guy a swift kick in the mommy and daddy button for your troubles!!

HOLLY COW! I HATE CRIMINALS! I have been ripped off so many times before, but not for that much! OUCH! I have a Dog that would like to play with this guys balls.

Sorry to hear about your dilema. Did you get your belongings from the small safe? Do you have the guys full name. I can do a search on Louisiana arrest reports and we can at least see what he is charged with and keep tabs on him. Best of luck.

This is very sad story , makes me cringe.. How did you ever get involved with the guy or did he burglarize you? How did you manage to get his info to begin with? Sorry, for the curiousity, but it be nice to learn how to avoid such slick conmen, thieves in the future.

So, I got the actual story on how he got caught from the Louisiana police yesterday. Apparently he went in to a bar and was drinking, but the bartender thought he looked pretty suspicious from the minute he walked in the door. He used the same story on them as he did on me. He said his dad had just died and that he was on a trip to think his life through or some s*** like that. Anyhow, then he told these guys that he had some guns that he was trying to sell and so they went out into the parking lot, and the bartender called the police. Thankfully the bartender was a good citizen :s0155: So the police arrived and did a sting. They sat back and ran the plates off of the jeep liberty, they came back from a different vehicle. Since the plates didn't match they ran a search on the Jeep Liberty. It came up stolen from Idaho. When the police approached him, he ran on foot. The police pursued him and tazzed his *** :) and then he continued to resist arrest and the cops had to use force to get him to cooperate. The officer assured me that his mug shot didn't look to pretty. After they ran his finger prints his name came back as Richard Stevens. I don't know his middle initial yet but I will find out what it is. He is wanted in 5 states for various crimes, including grand theft auto, burglary, possession of drugs, and I'm not sure what else. We are now in the process of filing the paper work so that we will be the first state to try his a**, and a police escorted road trip is in order to go pick up the scum bag.
To answer the question of how he made his way into my home. He came into our town of about 800 people one day and showed up at the bar saying his dad had just died and that he was on a trip to Washington to bury him. He then befriended many of the locals and was actually staying with one of the gals in town. We then were holding a party at my house to celebrate my mothers 70th birthday and he attended. We began discussing guns and at one point I showed him some of my collection, dumb move on my part. He then scoped the place out and found the hide-a-key for my house and found out that we were going to be out of town on one afternoon to take my father to the doctor. That was when he made his move and swiped everything he could find.
I will post a list of the items that were not found in the vehicle at the time of his arrest within the next couple of days. One of which is the safe, which is very unnerving due to the important contents that were inside it.

Correct me if I am wrong but isnt stealing firearms a federal crime?

no not in and of itself..but taking stolen property across state lines is and attempting to sell stolen guns across state lines is..

if they found any dope on this guy or in his vehicle he is absolutely screwed

if you can get a US attorney to look at this case..they will jump all over it

72sportster, you say he stole your safe? Did you have the safe bolted to the ground? Was this guy a professional safe cracker? How could he have gotten your combo? Were most of your guns just laying around? I am happy this scumbag got caught and the crap beat out of him.. May God forgive him for his wicked heart and I am praying you get all your guns back in the condition they were taken. It sounds like you had a real rough break and were dealing with a real cold hearted conman. Amazing how some scumbag can win the hearts of good hearted people from a small town and then stab them all in the back.. Maybe I am extreme, but I say hang em high, I don't want my tax dollars to pay for his extended vacation at Club Prison Med.

sportster
Keep posting this till we find this turd. Remember that the more u post or advertise this punk the more likely someone will see him. Maxium effort gets the bad guy. Its just another felony to law inforcement.

Currently, we are still in the process of determining how we are going to get the scum bag to Oregon so that he can be prosecuted. I learned from the DA that the crimes he committed will only get him between 2 and 4 years. What BS !!! But I can't get the guns back until the case is over, and hunting season is coming up, so I hope they hurry up and decide what we can do to get this crap over with.

Do you have any idea if the guns in his posession were all yours or did he have others that he "collected" from other honest citizens like yourself??

I just saw this thread and was darn glad to see that he was at least caught! Hopefully you'll get some of your stuff back at least. :(

He had a few other guns that weren't mine, but I'm not sure what they were. He did still have some of the most monetarily valuable guns, but some of the ones that meant the most to me were gone by the time the caught him

Sportser,
Sorry for your loss! I got ripped off many years ago also, never did find any of the guns or the MF's that took them. Glad to hear they caught the dirt bag. Summer in a LA prison, sounds kinda hot and sticky to me. Maybe you'll get lucky and he'll have a heat stroke.
