This is really an interesting subject. I was a professional firefighter in Southern California for 24 years and a Los Angeles County Paramedic for about eight years during that time. I would estimate that I have been on at least 100 shootings as first on the scene and I have seen people shot with everything from a .22 to an arrow clean through one guy's head. I would guess that 75% survived the shooting and I don't think I ever saw two people react exactly the same way. Everything from hysteria to a kind of nonchalant. I have seen people react less to be shot than others have to a sprained ankle. Some people can tolerate pain better than others. Best advice is don't be there when the bullet hits, but if you are shot try to remain as calm as possible and try to stop the bleeding with direct pressure.
