Last july my mother complained that her 1998 escort was over heating with the AC on, she brought it to Harris ford have it checked out, it only cost $115 to find out, they said there was a leak in the AC "manifold" AC was system was empty, and the estimate for repairs was only $750. So to took the car across the street to Malloy auto repair, they said the reason the car was over heating was the electric fan was not working, they found another one for $95, there was NO Leaks in the AC system, didn't need recharging. Oh and there was a scrapping sound from the front of the motor, Harris ford never brought that up, Malloy Auto repair replaced the timing belt tensioner, that's funny because harris ford 6 months prior "replaced" the timing belt, fixed a leaking front oil seal, and they claimed she had a leak in her radiator. That to is interesting, i never saw any evidence of any radiator leaks, never low on coolant either, hmm. Final cost ONLY $2200. If you don't know much about cars, how do you know you aren't getting taken. Don't let the smiles fool you. Beware Of Harris Ford, you've been warned.

P. I saved the invoice from Harris ford with there estimate, and Malloy's final bill..Just in case

I wouldn't have thought they would do any different.
And why in the **** would you spend $2200 on a $1000 hoop?
$2200 could have bought your mom a real car.Or maybe even 3 98 Escorts

just sayin'

Lol. Finally, something that both of us agree on! Lol.....too funny!

Is the car still over heating? after they put the fan on did it solve the problem? I am curious. alot of the time the radiator gets plugged up inside which leads to the fan not kicking on because the sensor won't read the right temp due to rad being plugged and on HOT days, which we haven't had alot of, you will notice this. plus using the ac will make the condeser put off more heat and affect the rads cooling especially when plugged up inside. P.S. dealers diagnosis is only for there pocket books. the way they fix problems is not figure them out but replace items till it works= expensive! let me know if you have any questions as I have been in the cooling industry for over 10 years and would love to help. shame on harris ford, poor mom. oh I think you said they replaced the rad, did they? they probably didn't burp the system after they put it on if a new one was put on, which can cause the fan not to work because the themostat isn't functioning. sorry now i am rambling on, but you can see there are many factors. One thing you can check is if the heater puts out hot heat once the car has been running for a bit.

Harris Ford's diagnosis was wrong on many levels.
The first and foremost being, that if there is no refrigerant in the AC system the condenser doesn't transmit any heat. The refrigerant is the medium that carries the heat to the condenser,... DUH!

Clearly a case of being criminally stupid!

After the electric fan motor was replaced, it would no longer over heat. Harris ford said there was no refrigerant in the system, because
of the leak, Malloy auto repair said it was full

Also this car is not a $1000 hoop, like one poster said, it's a like new 98 with 90K, if you can find me 3 98 or newer escorts in this condition, let
me know..Just sayin

good to hear malloy took care of your moms car. I also second that if you can find 3 for a thousand please sign me up! don't know what she can do as of Harris screwing her over but it is a expensive lesson learned for not using dealers.

Woody, your right about the lesson learned, the only thing i can do is let as many people that will listen know, and to be aware. Also get a
second opinion.

I'll never go there again.

Went in to their dealer in '06 or so looking for a used car. I let them run my credit, I know bad mistake, but after we couldn't come to terms I found a car else where. The next year when I was again shopping for a car, I found out they shotgunned my credit and ran it 80 some times. Totally f'd me up for a while.
