Is it better to sell your handgun and components/additions separately?
It depends . If the package deal is not too expensive there will be more interest with the extras included . If the handgun is more , then separate extras to have a broader interest . I would do a search in the areas you would place items to see comparative pricing .... if the ads are up then maybe the price was a limiting the sale . The market has been soft so price will be a factor . Everyone wants a deal but also you shouldn't just give items away .

I would say that it depends on ...
The price you are asking....
And the handguns / extras.

A Luger with the Holster , extras magazine and take down tool...might be better to sell as a set.
A Glock 19 with extra magazines....ehh....could go either way...again...all depending on asking price.

In any event...welcome to the forum.

IMHO Extras are tricky, if they make the gun shoot better then maybe ok but if they are mostly for the look good then you've got to find the other person besides you that wants a gun that looks like that. Case in point I have 3XL hands so I put bigger grips on my guns. If some else has petite hands then my bigger grips no matter how pretty won't work for them and they will have to buy a different set.

I've almost always jettisoned any extras with the piece being sold. More of a logistics thing than anything else. To the best of my recollection, it never posed an issue. I can think of a few times when the buyer expressed thanks to receiving the additional items.

P.S. Welcome aboard. :)

Think of it like,
If you want to sell your sheep and you want to charge extra for the blonde wig and sparkly red bra and thong set….
…..You will drastically reduce the pool of potential buyers. :s0154:

It's kinda the same for selling a gun. :s0155:

I traded my Kimber Micro 9 with 6 mags and a cross breed holster. Got an Sig with three mags and a holster. I figured maybe the guy could use all that stuff and I was just glad to get rid of a gun that wasn't right for me, without losing a butt load of money.

Four of the mags were 8 round and kinda stuck out of the gun. I see he has those for sale in the classifieds. The mags I got were really easy to load. I took them apart to clean and one of the mags had a really short spring. I replaced those springs and bought 9 more mags. I'm set for life on mags for my pistols now.

I usually don't let more mags than what came with the gun go with the gun when I sell a gun. But, as I'm never going to buy one of those Micro 9's again, I figured what the hell. I bought those mags at a reduced price, brand new, and he came out about 50 bucks ahead in the trade.

Selling accessories separately will usually get you more money. But then you have multiple sales to contend with and more no shows and other idiots. But most accessories can be sold on ebay limiting the hassle but you also have to pay ebay for the sale.

Welcome.

A lot of companies who sell police trade ins strip the pistol kits of more than one magazine and sell the other mags separate. It's evidently more profitable for them. I would try listing the items semi-separate (same ad but separate prices), give a better package price if somebody takes it all at once.

Good advice. Anything specific to know regarding the rules for listings in the classifieds?

The classifieds here, are a great free service. I have bought and sold lots and lots of items here.

I would try to stick with face to face meetups at FFLs for your firearm sales, unless you are well versed in shipping firearms and electronic payments. For me I have stuck with mostly face to face meet ups. Too many ways for shipping and electronic payment deals to go south or be a big hassle.

Maintain your inbox so it doesn't get full. You could miss out on messages from potential buyers if your inbox gets full.

Good luck with your sales.
