Hello, new to the Northwest firearms forums. Wanted to get some information on person to person private sales. I've heard numerous things from different people at gun shops/pawn shops about the laws surrounding this topic. Any information helps and is appreciated.

The law you need to know is SB941 - passed a few years back. It requires all private sales of firearms to go through an FFL for the transfer. Private party sales of firearms in Oregon are illegal under SB941. There are some exceptions for close relatives, etc., but that's it.

Yep...
It goes like this:
List (or find) your gun in your favorite classified section. Along w the particulars it's a good idea to add which FFL you use (if selling). You can Google a list of FFL holders in your area, but not all necessarily do transfers (Like Bi-Mart, WalMart, etc). Some shops are stupid-expensive. A few of us in SE use Money Market Pawn, 20 for the transfer, 10 for NICS/OSP. Kinda far from B-ton, but your buyer (or seller) may have suggestions, but that's about as cheap as it gets unless your friends w the FFL guy.

Make a date and meet at the FFL. If the deal works, fill out the 4473 and the FFL will do the rest of the work. Don't leave til the BGC is done and approved.

Get (or give) your money and everyone leaves happy.

I can't imagine how there are any gun or pawn shops that would have confusion over this... it's a PITA, but fairly simple.
