I have noticed that many semi-auto handgun barrels look very similiar in design. Is anybody here aware of a list that provides unconventional compatibility of barrels and frames among different models and maybe even different brands? Maybe some fitting would be required?

A little google search did bring up some compatible swaps that people have had success with between glock and sigma lines.

IIRC Massad Ayoob had an article titled something like "It's not a Sig, ma" where he said he swapped them with success but with the usual "kids, don't try this at home" disclaimers
