Well, it is acceptable to do this maybe a couple times to check your radio and ensure you are tuned to the repeater correctly but not 100's of times like the person I mentioned was doing - and on a regular basis.I'm new to Ham but don't they call that "kerchunking" the repeater? I've read that it is often done (and not always discouraged) when tuning the offset.
Best to just QSO for a radio check.
