I believe that the ad was meant to be over the top and provocative in nature. They wanted it to go viral, for the publicity benefit. If you look at the video of the news report about it, you will see that they even posted it on liberal, anti-gun Facebook pages, as they knew that liberals would condemn them harshly, and help spread it further.

They basically believe in the doctrine that all publicity is good publicity.

I guess that one could argue that they were rather selfish in doing this. For they only thought of how it would help get business for their company ( which it indeed did ), and did not consider any ramifications that it might have on the public perception of gun owners.

.
Nailed it! Kinda explained "The Bee Says" to a child.

All in all , the ad in the OP , is not helpful in showing a positive image of gun owners.

Agreed. And I'd add this short video would not make me wish to avail myself of their services, promised AR-15 or not. It sounds like his gambit may have worked, but I wouldn't waste my time with any outfit that would produce such silliness.

I caught some roofers drinking on the job one weekend.
It was one of those huge three story McMansions that I was general on and the crew was dropping the twist off caps down the vent pipes and tossing the glass bottles over into the neighbors back yard woods.
I climbed up onto the roof and could see lots of nail head shiners below the overlaps. I told them to quit and pack up their equipment, but since they didn't speak English, I just pulled their extension cord and locked up the temp electric meter till they left.
They were stumbling around over 40' in the air on a steep roof with no safety harnesses.

pretty funny thread... about a brilliantly stupid ad that probably got that dude a bunch of contracts for roofing jobs purely because its memorable and people like ironic patriotic humor. Its real stupid, but all mainstream media in America is stupid. My generation unfortunately tends to have a very short attention span-this ad works on us. I'm not proud of this.

Thank you. The Ad was funny. The problem is that that young august individual reminds me of ... of ... me. When I was his age of course. Long ago, far away. And ... never pick a fight with either roofers or sheet rockers. They will always kick your ... arse. Yikes! :)

Respectfully.
