Out of curiosity, did any SL6A2*-type carbines ever make it on the NFA registry? I know they couldn't be imported in that configuration, thanks to GCA68. However, there were various workarounds done by some firms pre-May 1986 (e.g., various converted H&Ks, Beretta 93R clones made on Taurus frames, etc.). Still, I am guessing the answer is a no, but curiousity got the better of me.

* It is a H&K sporting rifle in 5.56☓45mm with a 2-shot burst capability.
