From what I saw on the news, they bumped the people to get a crew to another airport.

"United airlines overbooked the flight. They randomly selected people to kick off so their standby crew could have a seat,"

Yeah they bumped them so the crew could get to their next flights.

Like I said it's stupid, the policy sucks, but still it's their business they can do what they want with their business.

My wife and I just had this conversation.

She said it is crap that they over book that far and they would have to compensate her pretty good but she would take it if needed.

I told her sarcastically that I would make them drag me out just to see if they could. :D

Okay so some of you snowflakes might cry foul at this but I find it hilarious and think the lady crying about this guy getting manhandled is even funnier

Passengers 'shaky and so disgusted' as United forces screaming doctor off a plane | The Sacramento Bee

People need to remember flying is a privilege not a right. You are not owed that seat, you are a guest.
The policy sucks, sure, but you still have to abide by it or start walking.

Gotta disagree just a bit... you're a PAYING CUSTOMER, and you MOST CERTAINLY ARE owed a seat. They exchanged that seat for YOUR money. Now if you endanger others or interfere with the flight operations, then THAT'S a different story. If they "overbooked" a scheduled flight, then they sold you something they didn't have... and THAT is fraud.

At this point United is probably wishing they'd upped the anti and offered a bit more cash to get the empty seats. Lets face it, having a viral you tube video of a bloodied, screaming PAYING passenger being dragged off a plane ain't exactly the highlight of public relations.

So the doctor needed to get home to see his patients, and United lost their patience with the doctor. Security impatiently removed the doctor resulting in injury. The injured doctor re-enters the aircraft and was subsequently removed by the medical team as their patient. Meanwhile, the rest of the passengers patiently wait while United cleans up the bio-hazard. Got it.

Meanwhile, the flight crew is trying to figure out who's taking the fall for this one....."No, Dunn is over Unger, and Oveur's under Dunn."

I was flying back home to Hawaii once and they overbooked and asked for volunteers to give up their seats in return for a free hotel room, free meal and a free round trip ticket good for the 'continental US". When they did not get enough volunteers, I told the flight attendant that I lived in Hawaii and if the free ticket would be upgraded to cover a Hawaii flight, I would give up my seat. Nope, they would not do it and kicked off some other poor passenger. For a free $600.00 ticket hotel room and meal, I figured I could find a good bar and have some fun. But, they were too cheap to spring for the free Hawaii ticket.

They exchanged a ticket for a sum of money. That is a contract and he IS entitled to a seat. I hope he sues the hell out of them. United has always sucked, even back in the days when I was flying in uniform and treated like a dog.

I'd click on it but I don't want to puke.. heard his squalling on the radio.
Also, of course a crying sunt like that will claim to be a doctor.. there is no proof that he is one and no one can find him for follow up. anyway

A while back I really needed to get to 29 Palms and at the last minute the flight to Palm Springs got cancelled due to a mechanical problem. A little 'rational' discussion with Alaska Airlines personnel and explaining my situation got me to LAX by 8 PM, dinner in Portland and a rented car out of LAX by 9 pm and I drove to 29 Palms for a bit of a delayed meetup with my daughter but all went well - and none of it with any kicking and screaming at Redmond Airport.

Most of my air travel is in the western United States. I go directly to Alaskas website, enter my mileage plan number and book my flights direct. I have had very few problems with Alaska in thousands of miles. They cancelled a commuter flight from Seattle to Portland for crew hours on one of the Q400's. Within 40 minutes they had us rebooked on another flight to Portland, they consolidated about 4 Q400 flights on to a 737 they had over in maintenance and got us to Portland in about 20 minutes.

There were of course the loud mouths braying about how terrible this was, and berating the agents. I told one to shut up and go rent a car. I was polite to the agent apologized for them having to listen to the azzhole and hoped it all worked out for them. The agent quickly booked us on the .

We have one international flight on the bucket list next year that we will have to probably go Delta or American and anything after that is on Alaska. They treat all the passengers well, and frequent flyers are treated well. We get one $ 99 companion fare each year. Screw the big airlines and their cattle calls.

I saw something much worse than this video. On my freedom flight from Vietnam [a chartered civilian carrier], we refueled in Japan. MP's came on the plane to escort five unwilling guys off the plane to make room for some military contractors or dependents. Of course they bypassed officers in the first few rows to reach seats filled by enlisted troops. It was damned ugly. Everything that wasn't glued and bolted down was thrown at the MP's, and a couple officers dumb enough to stand up and order everyone to pipe down. We were draftees and two digit midgets. After 12 months in country the anticipation of getting back in the world was palpable, and you could have cut the seething hate in that aircraft with a shovel. We flew the rest of the way to Travis AFB in California without food service or pass-throughs by flight attendants [who were elderly, matronly females in any event]. There were MP's to see up deboard at Travis, but they made a clear path for us and none of the officers on the plane or at Travis said anything as we stalked off. I think most, if not all, already had leave scheduled so after picking up orders and flight authorizations, we were bused to San Francisco for flights home. I called my fiance to let her know I was coming home. She cried when she saw me get off the plane in Portland as I'd lost so much weight.

We have flown out of there quite a few times. No lines, great service, even the TSA was decent. Connections are always good, and not expensive. We used to leave our dog with our son there, but even with the dog now gone, we still start and end our trips there and drive home to the west side.

Not quite starting a countdown to our move over there, but it is under 2 years now.
