Gun Control Derailed: Chicago Thefts Underscore Faulty Logic

The faulty logic that more gun laws will keep firearms out of the wrong hands hit a brick wall Friday with a report from NBC News in Chicago about how street gangs have stolen gun shipments out of railroad cars in Chicago's South Side, including more than 100 Ruger handguns headed for Spokane, Washington.

This is part of why I expect the boxcar to die soon, replaced by the CONEX.

Containers only have one point of entry which can be well secured, boxcars have two that can't. Anybody who can find the lever can open a boxcar door, and once it's open anything inside that you can get out with is yours for the taking, at least in Physical Security terms.

It's been more than alleged that Chicago is corrupt. There is a fist bump between the gangs and some in government, call it payoffs or whatever.

According to the story this is an ongoing problem. It's not a one off or sloppy security work. Don't expect anything to change anytime soon.

Gangs run the railyards of Chiraq. Not so much organized crime, more like unorganized crime. Chi-town is still the kinda place someone will cut your face with a box cutter if you look at them wrong. Drove thru Chi-town before, caught the evening news on the tv. Its like your worst nightmare every story, murder-carjackings, home invasion gangrapes. Entire project buildings known taken over by gangs, to the point where poeple are kicked out of their own apartments and others flee not wanting to live in daily fear, you know great evening news stories. Wonder if the L-train still has stick-up kids?...

An old problem. Unsecured transport. Sometimes amazingly valuable shipments of whatever. There is stuff missing from World War One when our government tried, (unsuccessfully) to run the nation's railroads that still has not been recovered. This includes heavy ordnance as well as guns, ammo, supplies, anything and everything imaginable. Probably all buried someplace deep.

I've read a couple of articles on this an I'd be surprised if they knew the guns were in there. They probably just got lucky. What ever happened to having a couple of Rottweilers patrolling your train yard? Is that not a thing anymore?
