So it's still basically the same check, just with the OSP form in place of the 4473.
Yes - and the data goes into a national DB - so it isn't just statewide that they keep that data.

IIRC, officially they are supposed to eventually delete that data.

But if you believe that, then you probably also believe the NSA isn't vacuuming up all of the data going over the internet and phone lines either.

Questions:
Is this OSP involvement similar to the I594 is Washington?
What if a contact is made in a gun show, and the transaction is completed elsewhere?
Is the OSP interference required for all private transactions?

I don't know enough about I-594 to say. Basically a dealer contacts OSP to conduct the background check instead of contacting NICS like you would in Washington.

What if a contact is made in a gun show, and the transaction is completed elsewhere? Is the OSP interference required for all private transactions?

According to the law any transaction initiated at a gun show needs to have a background check, even if the transaction isn't completed at the gun show. Private transactions not involving a gun show do not require contacting OSP.

His reasoning is "Well if it just saves one life" - but then that is his reply to most everything.

ask him to respond to this

"Four people were killed and two others injured when a car crashed into a utility box early Saturday morning in Auburn."

http://blogs.seattletimes.com/today/2014/10/4-killed-in-auburn-crash/

in may senses this is more tragic, the two have a lot in common, one person responsible for all the deaths and injury, seemingly the person responsible knew all the others involved, and we don't know if the acr crash was intentional or not but clearly laws were being broken that resulted in the crash.

However 4 being killed in a car crash does not solicit the same response, because those that are asking for gun laws drive cars and do not want their rights infringed, and they do not see cars as an impediment to socialist rule.....yet....

That accident was maybe a 1000 yards from my shop as the crow flies. The car was still wrapped around the pole when I came into work yesterday morning.

There should be laws against young kids drinking alcohol and then driving at excessive speeds. If only we had those then those poor kids would still be alive.

It would have no effect. He would apply some standard liberal rational to it or liberal 'overspeak' to it as they are ALL good at. He would start to talk about how the gun should have somehow been made unavailable to the kid, how the ammo & mags should have been separated or anyone of a # of unrealistic conditions that SHOULD be applied to have maybe 'saved one more life' HOWEVER, his response to the car crash would be something like this. "The car crash was an accident, it was not intentional, it was not a gun, we need to drive and have utility boxes, cars cannot be picked up and used to kill" (etc.)

CDC facts on drownings in the USA.
Why aren't the MOMS marching on this issue?

Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States.1

How big is the problem?
  • From 2005-2009, there were an average of 3,533 fatal unintentional drownings (non-boating related) annually in the United States — about ten deaths per day. An additional 347 people died each year from drowning in boating-related incidents.2
  • About one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger.2 For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.1
  • More than 50% of drowning victims treated in emergency departments (EDs) require hospitalization or transfer for further care (compared with a hospitalization rate of about 6% for all unintentional injuries).1,2 These nonfatal drowning injuries can cause severe brain damage that may result in long-term disabilities such as memory problems, learning disabilities, and permanent loss of basic functioning (e.g., permanent vegetative state).3,4
Who is most at risk?
  • Males: Nearly 80% of people who die from drowning are male.2
  • Children: Children ages 1 to 4 have the highest drowning rates. In 2009, among children 1 to 4 years old who died from an unintentional injury, more than 30% died from drowning.1,2 Among children ages 1 to 4, most drownings occur in home swimming pools.2 Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies (birth defects).1 Among those 1-14, fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes.1
  • Minorities: Between 2005 and 2009, the fatal unintentional drowning rate for African Americans was significantly higher than that of whites across all ages.2 The disparity is widest among children 5-14 years old. The fatal drowning rate of African American children ages 5 to 14 is almost three times that of white children in the same age range.2 The disparity is most pronounced in swimming pools; African American children 5-19 drown in swimming pools at rates 5.5 times higher than those of whites. This disparity is greatest among those 11-12 years where African Americans drown in swimming pools at rates 10 times those of whites.5

Factors such as access to swimming pools, the desire or lack of desire to learn how to swim, and choosing water-related recreational activities may contribute to the racial differences in drowning rates. Available rates are based on population, not on participation. If rates could be determined by actual participation in water-related activities, the disparity in minorities' drowning rates compared to whites would be much greater.6

Why aren't the MOMS marching on this issue?
Because this (like many other killers) are not etched into the liberal mindset like guns have become. They are the exalted item of death and destruction. No amount of statistics about death from any one of a number of other causes (and many of them intentional) will ever be recognized or considered. The gun IS the one and only, primary focus of the liberal. It has approached an almost psych0-pathalogical level with them.
