Considering how bad it's been here in PDX the last two years, those numbers are very surprising.
I'm thinking that comparativly speaking Oregon's population is a bit less than many of those other states with hgher gun sales. It would be interesting to see these numbers compared on a per thousand population/sales basis.

Wow. That's a lot of FOID cards...

But I thought Indiana was the cause of Chicago's murder rate.

Outliers always make me suspicious. Found this article.

Well, actually…no. There are approximately 2.3 million FOID card holders and 350,000 concealed carry licensees right now. The Illinois State Police pings the NICS background check system with FOID/CCL holder re-checks as frequently as nightly. That process generates around 1 million NICS requests per month. These are called "Permit" and "Permit Re-Check" queries.

Currently, actual transfer (firearms sales) activity is more like 50,000 per month. Mark Oliva from the NSSF tried to explain that to the CNN author at length, but to no avail.
So I dunno. It sounds like the land of lincoln uses the NICS system to check on people even when no gun is being purchased. That inflates the numbers. And the media doesn't care, so reports hogwash.

Nahhhh... that can't happen.
