Some very very small percentage of firearms in a private transfer would be stolen - so 99.99% of all firearms should be checked to catch the 0.001% of firearms that are stolen?

Moreover, not all firearms that are stolen would be in a stolen firearms database; not all are reported, not all serial numbers are known. In fact, I would say guess that there are more stolen firearms where the serial number *isn't* known than there are where the serial number is known.

It's a smoke screen for registration and there are ways to implement the check such that a person could check for themselves without having to have the serial number go into some registry.

I think it might be kind of nice to be able to interface with a website anonymously to check a serial number. This can be done for cars, why not with firearms.

Of course, this leads to a self-registration the moment they track ANYTHING having to do with the person who requested the information.

Just because you checked to see if a gun was stolen doesn't mean you bought it, or still own it. That is why they don't want to provide a publicly accessible database of stolen firearms; this has nothing to do with stolen firearms and everything to do with registration.

That same year there was a gun-control rally she attended at the Portland City hall. After the event she mingled about with supporters, but ended up moving towards the sidewalk where there were counter protesters, including one mom with her kid. The mom was holding a pro-2nd amendment sign. Ginny started chatting with her, but the moment her eyes passed over the sign said something along the lines of "I don't talk to you people", turned and high-tailed it OUT of the event. It happened so quickly that we were all kinda speechless for a few seconds with a "what just happened" reaction, LOL.

It was originally set up to work that way - all of us pulling the same direction. We allowed our government to get out of control to the point that it sees many honest citizens as potential threats while ignoring the obvious and real threats.

Criminal behavior ignored while law abiding citizens are treated like criminals "for their own safety"

Patriotic groups scrutinized as "domestic terrorists" while real threats like cartels and Islamists are ignored and apologized for.
