I go through a lot of gun and recently ran out so I did what I think most of us would do I went to my local gun shop and what I noticed is gun oil is $1-4 an ounce depending on brand is it just me or does that seem unresonable? which brought me to thinking whats wrong with using motor oil instead at $3 a quart ? Do any of you use anything besides gun oil on your guns veg oil/motor oil ?

Anything designed to work in an engine will work on a firearm. There is no "magic" to gun oil...a quart of 30W synthetic would last you years....and pay for itself fourfold.

I only use Mobil 1 synthetic oil, especially improtant in an AR or other auto weapon. It will not burn off like petroleum based lubes such as CLP. I did just order some stuff called Frog Lube that was invented by a Navy SEAL and is getting good reviews from the guys over at the Sniper's Hide forum.

You think the stuff in "gun oil" was discovered shortly after the invention of guns? It's just a substance that someone found had the right characteristics for use in guns and decided to rebrand as "gun oil," along with a suitably inflated price, of course. If it works, it works, regardless of price of or label.
