I was on the road and found myself locked out of my room. I went to the front desk, they asked me to wait a few minutes until the police arrived to escort me to my room and escort me and my firearm out of the building.

The problem I had was my pistol was buried deep in my luggage so they had to have been rooting around to find it. They did point out a smallish sign that was unreadable from my side of the desk stating this policy.

I did manage to get the last laugh, I brought up this topic with a friend, he in turn changed his hotel reservation to where I had problems. He also got locked out and when the cops arrived it became a game of show and tell, badges being flashed everywhere. Suddenly their policy no longer applied to him or his friends.
So, by my read, you're suggesting that the hotel staff rifled through your personal belongings/suitcase/etc. in order to find your gun.
What hotel chain is this? I must make a mental note to NEVER to stay with them.
TIA

I just kinda scanned the last page of lengthy posts and caught political content….maybe it was on topic in some way. Honestly I didn't read through it all.

That border stunt, cancelling our pipeline and approving Russia's, and the mandatory vaccinations are together a huge blow to our economy.
I agree that abandoning the principles of an intact border and controlled coherent enforced immigration policy will harm our economy.

I think the mandatory vaccinations is too difficult for me to call. It depends on whether very many people actually give up jobs over it. At the moment I object based upon civil rights rather than believing the policy will have a predictable economic impact.

I think the oil pipeline from Canada to the US being cancelled will have a huge impact on Canada but very little on US. Its only value to us was providing heavy crude to mix with our light sweet shale oil for plants designed to run on heavy crude. And our new plants are designed to run on light sweet, and more and more plants are being retrofitted to run on light sweet. We aren't going to need heavy crude very much longer. Through and to US was the only option for Canadian crude.

What Russia pipeline?

It's not on topic. People equating unemployment insurance with poor job performance turned into a minimum wage rant.

There may be something about rifling through someone's hotel bag in there somewhere.

Whether or not we end up in a war with china certainly will effect supply chains. As do most major political policies.

Ever notice that often people start b1tching about staying on topic and then the thread ends? Maybe because those who were interested get driven away. Or maybe everything on the topic as narrowly conceived was already said, so if more wide-ranging comments are discouraged the thread ends.

Yeah, no we were way off topic. Sorry about that.

I'm pretty big on keeping a gun pointed in a safe direction any time it's out of a case or holster. How do you folks handle that in a hotel room? Unless you're on the ground floor and there is no basement, you're looking at pretty much 360 degrees of bad direction.

1) "I've even reloaded once in the room"
On the way to Sturgis in '98 I disassembled the generator from the Sportster in a motel room.

2) "I worked in three different mobile home factories back in the 70s (when they really slapped them together with poor standards)."
Same time as my tenure in the trailer mines, which ended in '79. Yeah, different manufacturers had different degrees of suck. When you're on piece rate you have to complete X number of floors/day with the minimal # of people on the crew. Piece rate splits the $/floor among the crew, so you got by with the fewest people possible. If you got sick the boss would go by your house to see that you weren't malingering - really. On the last day before a holiday the idea of "quality" was a joke. (One trailer mine I worked at had to change the brand name 3 times when their rep caught up with them.) This was also pretty much true on Fridays, just to a slightly lesser extent.

What Russia pipeline?
The Russian are building or already have built a pipeline to bring natural gas to Germany . There was some talk of not approving the pipeline, like we could do that . The real issue with the sanctions on Russia there was some discussion about sanctioning Germany, when Trump the art of the deal negotiator, was in office for trading with the Russians because of the prohibitions placed on Russian goods. . Like Sanctioning Germany is a real thing. The Germans just told us to get bent. Its brought up as a conservative talking point because pundits were actually discussing sending US gas to Germany in tankers which is a huge and expensive undertaking that would likely double or more the cost of the Natural Gas to the Germans. Germany is shutting down its nuke plants and NEEDS cheap natural gas . Stupid idea but you know, Its Bidens fault and Fox News loves pumping out BS..

Only a big deal because of Biden shutting down our pipeline and some think he should have done something symbolic with the Russkies. He has done enough other stuff for this to be a issue.

No Holiday Inn Express for Him!

They used to or still doing in downtown Seattle restaurants. I have not been into Seattle restaurants probably since back in 2016 timeframe at least. I did donjury duty at the King County Superior Court House back in 2018. For lunch I walked over to the Columbia Center Food court and then took the underground court house entrance in the King County administration building.

I would bet that almost all the hotels have staff that peek inside your belongings. I know the one that took my towel told me they have a lot of towel theft so they check for their towels in your stuff. I have just learned to never let them in, keep valuables on me or with me, and I set little traps or tells to see if they entered my room while I was out. I put the door hanger on and will move the little coffee tables behind the door so I have to squeeze out when I leave the room. I always put one of those tables in front of any adjoining room door as well. Once I trust the place I stop making it hard on myself. My occupation is known at time of check in and they seem not to want to mess with me as they already assume I am armed.

The main place I stay currently is pretty good and they don't bother me. I usually will bring a project with me to work on in the evenings and have had carburetors or magnetos spread out across the table at times. I've even reloaded once in the room :s0114:
Before 911 I traveled a lot for work. Since I was not a drinker I brought a lot of projects to work on at night. One of them was my reloader. It was mounted on a ply wood square and C Clamped to a table. I have loaded a lot of ammo in hotel rooms! I'm not sure how well that would go over today. DR

I'm the same, but remember, the 4 basic rules of gun safety were meant to work as a series of fail safes. Obey the other 3, nothing bad will happen.

And before all the interweb "I must be the most technically correct" people jump all over me, I'm not saying wield the muzzle willy-nilly however you want. Just apply some sense. Not the common kind, just plain, solid sense. Not every situation and environment is the same.

Also, if you have to clear the firearm for any reason in the room, point the muzzle at an exterior corner of the room. There is going to be more structure there (beams) and way less chance of a human being in the location.
