Is that a joke? The only actual people who fit that ideal are libertarians.

Conservatives love to push their ideologies, judgements and beliefs onto everyone else:
abortion, religion, drug use, prostitution, gambling, marriage, video games, porn, sex shops, strip clubs - the list of things conservatives wish to outlaw and ban for everyone else is never ending. Stay out of my personal life and entertainment, I'll stay out of yours... aka FREEDOM. ;)
Lots of generalizing going on in this thread. There are plenty of extremists on both sides, and plenty of live-and-let-live people on both sides. It's human nature. Some people just have this inner desire to force others to live like they do for whatever reason, perhaps insecurity or validation of their own chosen beliefs?

The vast majority of conservative people that I know have no desire to tell you how to live. We often have our sincerely held views on the issues above, but little interest in forcing them on you. There are plenty of "liberals" out there that don't fit the liberal stereotype as well.

Spouting off these stereotypes might make you feel good, and get a "Right on!" from those like you, but it just gets a "what a jerk" from those who don't. It never changes any minds.

Don't take this as an attack; I used to see things much the same (though from the other side). Conservatives are this, liberals are that, this group is good, that group is bad, my side is always right, the other side is always wrong, etc.. I've learned over the years that it's just not that simple.

Most of the "gun grabbers" are liberal Democrats. It's not a stereotype it's the truth.

Gun owners are endlessly ridiculed and asked to take responsibility for multi-faceted problems we did not create. And we are rightly frustrated by this. I am personally fine to let other people live however they want. Unfortunately when people screw up their lives they don't take responsibility for it. When someone's drug addiction leads them to a senseless act of violence, that is not the fault of Wayne LaPierre and Jeff Bezos. The poor choices of others do not mean I need to be taxed and regulated more.

Find a poll of conservatives that don't support outlawing abortion, or do support legalizing drugs and prostitution. I'll wait ;)

Those are not extremists they are the rule of thumb. And it's not a mystery why - their religion and religious organizations tell them what to think.

I do agree both ends of the spectrum have become more extreme and more radical, thanks to group-think and the echo-chamber bubbles the internet/phone have created. Partisan primary elections also leave us with more extreme, idiot politicians who continually lead us astray.

Please don't stereotype anyone here. Just because I don't like killing babies, snorting cocaine with Hunter, or sleeping with your mom doesn't mean there cannot be common ground. If'n you want to kill babies, then do it, don't force it on me. If you want to dress as a woman or do more than that, DO IT, just don't force it on MY children, if you want to stay high all day, do it just not on my dime-buy your own with gainful employment, as far as prostitution goes, just because I've never haggled with a hag doesn't mean I haven't considered, LOL

There are PLENTY of libertarian-leaning conservatives around. More and more are coming to the conclusion that social issues cannot be solves by edict. They are cultural issues that can really only be affected through a changing culture.

I agree with KMK1012; live your life, do your thing. You don't need my permission, nor should you ever expect my approval, just like I don't need your permission or approval to take my family to church, or whatever my thing is.

As a conservative, I do wish that more conservatives would realize how counterproductive it is to try to force our views on others, but it's hardly the sole territory of the right. The stuff that's force-fed to kids in school is egregious.

I completely agree that the world would be a better place if everyone stayed out of other people's business when not absolutely necessary.

The abortion/porn/gender/drug stuff doesn't belong on this forum. We have a lot of different perspectives here and those issues are divisive and detract from the purpose and focus of the forum.

I made no mention of debating any of those, nor do i want to. i merely provided examples that contradicted the point being made - which was that conservatives don't try to meddle in our lives. Fact is both parties do it and the ones who stand against it are the libertarians.

How about we stay away from non firearm political discussions as the rules state as well as follow rule 1. This site is for firearms related topics hence the name, all other topics can be discussed in a multitude of other places.
Everyone agreed to follow the sites rules and terms of use when joining so if you feel that you cannot do so then by all means go elsewhere before we have to waste our time showing you the door. If you do not agree with this statement then you do not fit here, sorry.
