Bronze Lifetime
Lots of generalizing going on in this thread. There are plenty of extremists on both sides, and plenty of live-and-let-live people on both sides. It's human nature. Some people just have this inner desire to force others to live like they do for whatever reason, perhaps insecurity or validation of their own chosen beliefs? Is that a joke? The only actual people who fit that ideal are libertarians.
Conservatives love to push their ideologies, judgements and beliefs onto everyone else:
abortion, religion, drug use, prostitution, gambling, marriage, video games, porn, sex shops, strip clubs - the list of things conservatives wish to outlaw and ban for everyone else is never ending. Stay out of my personal life and entertainment, I'll stay out of yours... aka FREEDOM.![]()
The vast majority of conservative people that I know have no desire to tell you how to live. We often have our sincerely held views on the issues above, but little interest in forcing them on you. There are plenty of "liberals" out there that don't fit the liberal stereotype as well.
Spouting off these stereotypes might make you feel good, and get a "Right on!" from those like you, but it just gets a "what a jerk" from those who don't. It never changes any minds.
Don't take this as an attack; I used to see things much the same (though from the other side). Conservatives are this, liberals are that, this group is good, that group is bad, my side is always right, the other side is always wrong, etc.. I've learned over the years that it's just not that simple.
