Actually, there is a mixed hand-to-hand/pistolcraft discipline IRL--it's called Hojutsu, and Mas Ayoob mentioned it in a couple of his more recent books from having gotten into it himself.

If anyone has a chance to study Hojitsu with him, Jeff Hall is pretty amazing. I've taken a shooting class with him and hope to someday take a class from him.
