Gun Facts, please share with your congressional representative

Pulled off Reddit, I'll share it on Firearms legislation thread as well.

"Gun Facts (with citations)

The ACTUAL facts about gun violence in America

There are about 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, this number is not disputed. (1)

U.S. population 328 million as of January 2018. (2)

Do the math: 0.00915% of the population dies from gun related actions each year.

Statistically speaking, this is insignificant. It's not even a rounding error.

What is not insignificant, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths:

• 22,938 (76%) are by suicide which can't be prevented by gun laws (3)

• 987 (3%) are by law enforcement, thus not relevant to Gun Control discussion. (4)

• 489 (2%) are accidental (5)

So no, "gun violence" isn't 30,000 annually, but rather 5,577... 0.0017% of the population.

Still too many? Let's look at location:

  • 596 (10%) - St Louis, MO (6)

  • 653 (11%) - Detroit, MI (6)

  • 1,527 (27%) - Chicago, IL (6)
That's over 40% of all gun crime. In just 3 cities.

This leaves 2,801 for for everywhere else in America... about 56 deaths per state. Obviously some States have higher rates than others

Yes, 5,577 is absolutely horrific, but let's think for a minute...

But what about other deaths each year?

  • 70,000+ die from a drug overdose (7)

  • 49,000 people die per year from the flu (8)

  • 37,000 people die per year in traffic fatalities (9)
Now it gets interesting:

  • 250,000+ people die each year from preventable medical errors. (10)
You are safer in Chicago than when you are in a hospital!

  • 610,000 people die per year from heart disease (11)
Even a 10% decrease in cardiac deaths would save about twice the number of lives annually of all gun-related deaths (including suicide, law enforcement, etc.).

A 10% reduction in medical errors would be 66% of the total gun deaths or 4 times the number of criminal homicides.

Simple, easily preventable, 10% reductions!

We don't have a gun problem... We have a political agenda and media sensationalism problem."

I've been wanting some solid info to have on hand to provide to people that have been brain washed by the anti 2nd people. Help me out here? Is Reddit a discussion forum, similar to NWFA? Because you can't just tell people " I know the truth, I read it on a discussion forum". You need to have a dependable source to quote. Something they can look up, (not that they would look up anything because they want to believe what they believe in their little well washed brains already)

Links to credible sources need to be provided.

Gun control has never been about facts, data, liberty, or civil rights. It’s always been about an agenda to disarm citizens and embolden/enable the government to assert unequivocal power.

Gun control—it’s always been about the ability to control you.
Well yeah, goes without saying. Credible sources are what's needed here. Ya' know, I can't just tell people I read it on a firearms discussion forum?

Oh I agree with you on that. We can’t on the one hand clamor for apparent data and on the other not need to cite it. I think the original poster (@Siglvr) didn’t include the links to the citations but I’ll hunt it down on Reddit.

And yes, Reddit is similar to this discussion format but in a slightly different way. It allows users to “upvote” certain posts and therefore usually brings relevant/meaningful posts to the top where it can be disseminated to the most users. That’s the theory anyway. It’s like a hybrid discussion forum.

Yeah-butt, I don't see reddit as any more credible than the anti's see NWFA. Granted what I read here I tend to believe, because it makes sense, but we're talking about people with their minds closed to ANY different info than what's ingrained in their brains. We need irrefutable sources.

Yep. Totally agree. I haven’t had a chance to look too deeply into that spreadsheet that was posted. But this afternoon I will; looks legit from what I can tell.

Also, if you’re not super familiar with Reddit, this isn’t a bad sub either.

The same people who belch loudest about elections having consequences engaged in outright treason and sedition when they lost.
The Legacy Media supports he DNC in its entirety. Any "information" presented supports the Progressive agenda. The Drooling Masses don't know the difference because anti gun propaganda saturates everything. If you read Der Sturmer you knew "The Joooz" were responsible for everything wrong in the world because that's all you ever heard.
The same people who want to take your freedom are engaged in a multi-front assault on 2A.
Am I the only one who connects the dots?

No. I see the parallels constantly. I'm not much of a history expert, other than what I catch on TV documentaries and such. As I understand the German population, for the most part, was THRILLED with what Hitler promised. That appears, to ME, pretty much the same with the likes of Bernie Sanders, AOC, Hillary Clinton and look on down the list of D candidates for the D nomination for President. Minus, of course, the parts about a "Master Race".

Anyone who thinks the truth in numbers is even remotely relevant to those hell-bent on removing your liberties are deluding yourselves.

They know the numbers. They just don’t care. They are pandering to their base, just like the other side does on their hot-button issues.

ADDED: to be slightly less doom and gloom, present those numbers to the fence sitters in a non-aggressive manner. Those statistics might matter to them. But find a credible source...
