Burdick, Hales, other gun control advocates rally at Portland City Hall | OregonLive.com

About 100 people showed up at Portland City Hall on a brisk Saturday morning, waving signs calling for a ban on assault rifles and an end to gun violence.

A small knot of pro-gun activists showed as well, to protest the protest. They stayed on the sidewalk near the front entrance to City Hall. Some had joined a rally in favor of gun rights at the Capitol on Friday. One person openly carried a loaded long-arm to this rally.
"Why I own it is much different than what I use it for. I own it because I truly believe that firepower should be in the hands of the populace, not just the government and police," said Paul Pawlowski, 34, of Portland.
And yes, his gun was strictly for show. "It's 14 lbs. and rather impractical to carry every day," he said.
A disgusted Jim McGoodwin told Pawlowski he found his conduct abhorrent. McGoodwin, 88, came loaded with several handmade signs of a hand-drawn handgun slashed with a diagonal.
"The government's gotta take a hand in this thing because the government is not protecting us from thugs," he said, referring to Pawlowski.
McGoodwin then looked at two women with signs upholding the Second Amendment and said, "Or these two, a couple of constitutional lawyers here."

One hundred people? That's not very many considering it is pretty close to the majority of people in the state who support them and its on a weekend. Maybe people are smart enough not to want to listen to Burdick and Hales speak.

McGoodwin sounds like someone who expects the government to provide services to constantly protect him and trample people's rights if he doesn't agree with them.

I do not want to sound insensitive and I am typing this in the most respectful way, but Mr. McGoodwin is 88. He does not really have any stake in the future. If his children truly believe in gun control, they should be protesting with him. Somehow I doubt they were there.

gatta love how they planned their rally longer than yesterdays pro-gun rally in salem and still couldnt even compare to its size. its strange how the majority of people look like such a small group when they voice their opinions. again, how do we know that the "majority" of people want more gun restrictions?

oh and they argue that weapons of war have no place on our streets... when the 2A was written and adopted guns were only seen as weapons of war, how have we forgotten that guns were made to be used in war?

WTF? How come OFF didn't tell us about this?

Somewhat dissatisfield with OFF. Kevin's staff don't seem to announce much or stay abreast of local events. We have enough people to drown out this rally if we'd known.

The anti freedom people would be happy to eliminate our rights, but most won't inconvenience themselves when it's time to stand up. Oh, many of them will vote to take away other's rights. But just like they want the government to provide their every want and need, they expect others to do their fighting. It's much safer and easier to look down upon others and criticize and whine.

You know how the liberals work; if they can't stop us from having guns, they will seek & pass legislation...............

"Everybody gets a prize.........."
"It takes a village.............."
"I want my fair share.........."
"We want common-sense distribution......"
"Employers must provide free guns........"
"Free guns for women; stop this attack on women......"

Watch how quickly liberals go from "You can't" to "You have to".

Mr. Goodwin was obviously not a part of The Greatest Generation. I have never heard one, of his age spout vennom like that. I have family that fought over-seas and worked in the ship yards and factories, sacrificing for his 1st amendment rights. 88, what were his contributions? Do people like him, and especially our younger generation, realize the threat to that very, Constitution that this administration posseses? I just hope we are remembered as The Greatest II Generation when we can get our elected officials to work for the voters, instead of working for votes!

That showing was absolutely pathetic for protesting loving Portland, which goes to show how little the majority actually supports gun control.

So according to the media the vast majority of Oregonians supports gun control? That must be some incredible stuff they're smoking!

If our civil rights were fingernails; Obama admin and his cohort(s) are "cutting too close to the quick". BTW, which finger would be our 2A fingernail be on? :s0114:

You forget the USA had a well estabilshed and active Communist party before WWII as well as any number of Socialist organizations like the American Bund. He might have been part of that section of the American experiance.

gun extremists? you mean citizens practicing their rights? didnt know that believing in the constitution was an extreme view in our country. other countries dont like it, especially our enemies.

Wow, just wow. Ginny Burdick is so incredibly afraid. I am shocked she hasn't killed herself yet. I love the "completely disrupted" comment. So, if you go to a town hall with Ginny Burdick and you offer a dissenting opinion, you are dsirupting the event...

She did not give a date for the PUBLIC hearings on gun legislation. How do I find out when/where as I want to testify.
You'll want to start here and look for the schedules of the bills you want to follow: <broken link removed> .
Go to the OFF web site to find out what bills are being introduced this session.
Oregon's Only No Compromise Gun Lobby - Oregon Firearms Federation. As of right now, the two bills to follow are SB346 and 347. They have been forwarded to the judiciary and aren't on the schedule yet.

Keep searching the state legislature web site and you'll find links to schedules and instructions for testifying. You'll have to see which sessions are open and if you'll be allowed to testify.

Write the committee members, write your representatives, call and email everyone often. It's important that they hear from us often and with specifics.

OOPs - sorry Norm, looks like you're faster than I am at finding the links and getting them posted. We all need to keep up the pressure and spread the word!
