My thoughts are that a gathering of the likely Republican candidates would resemble the bar scene in Star Wars. None of them seem likely to be able to win against Obama. Most are unelectable (e.g. Gingrich).

I agree, 2012 cannot get here soon enough. About the under the radar thing, standard operating procedure...

Nothing like deflection right out of the box. Good job, comrade! Me thinks Charlie Manson could win against Obummer.

I'm ready for a middle-of-the-road American who respects the all ten items in the Bill of Rights. I don't want a gun grabbing socialist, nor a Patriot-Act wielding dictator. The Republicans will be shooting us all in the foot if they run anybody who's announced they are in the race at this point. Romney? Really? Who in the gun community would vote for that RINO? Gingrich? He's just slightly to the right of Ghengis Khan. He could run against Nancy Pelosi and lose. The vast majority of voters don't want anything to do with extremists. They vote for whoever is closest in their rhetoric (not necessarily in reality) to the center of the road. Obama talks the best centerist game in town right now. He'd get elected against any of the current Repubs.

I think the media definitely wants us to believe that. People seem to like to vote for who they perceive will be the winner. I read some article today to that effect, listing the republican candidates and telling why they couldn't win, but nowhere in the article was Ron Paul mentioned. I think he is the one the administration really fears, since he actually tells it like it is and is pro constitution, and he may wake people up if they listen and use their heads. I think we'll see propaganda really ramped up this time around, whatever it takes to win. For Paul to already not even be worth a mention I think just shows they don't even want his name out there. If he were to win, it would show a major change in the thinking of the average american, a change in thought that is diametrically opposed what the admin. apparently believes currently.

gingrich is running in the wrong decade. guys like him haven't had a chance in **** since sometime in the 80s. every president we've had since bush sr have been perceived as young and attractive, for a presidential candidate. if kerry hadn't looked like a two-week old dead horse corpse, he would have won in '04.

Any Republican that wants my vote needs to explain how it makes sense to cut social security and medicare for old folks, while at the same time giving a $200,000 tax cut to each and every millionaire in America, and continuing to spend $700B annually for the DoD to chase goat herders across Afghanistan. Do we really need another $2B submarine so we can do that?

100% agree.

Back to the issue raised in the OP .... I don't see how anything the Obama administration might come up with while "working under the radar" would ever fly. Surely, anything they would come up with would get tied up in court and frankly it wouldn't surprise me if this is only so much lip service.

Independents will decide the next election. The hard right Repubs would never vote for Obama and the hard left Dems will never vote for any republican.

I'm kind of looking at John Huntsman, not so much that I agree with every position I have heard about him taking, but I think he could get the Independent vote if he gets his msg out right and more people get to know him.

I see Sarah Palin getting in and taking every lying dirty thing the left can throw at her. Then a Herman Cain taking the lead a little under the radar
