I could well be wrong but aren't guns integral to everyday life there? As in pretty much guns are everywhere and often carried? Or is that just the way things look on TV?

I saw lots of average citizens, mostly old men, with AK weapons in farm fields and along road, and our commanders told us to not worry about it. These were not dangerous looking guys, but you never know. We never stopped our convoys to find out.
