One of the dirty secrets is the SS system is COUNTING on people not living long enough to claim their benefits.

Exactly. I was shocked when I went to file a claim and found out I couldn't get benefits to pay bills because I was RESPONSIBLE and actually worked. I would never see a dime of the money unless I quit. So I thought, fine. I figured out a way to do it. So at the end of the year, adios work.

This is why I think SS should be privatized. The money you pay in should be YOURS....to leave as an inheritance to others with no strings and no government interference.

Just got the news that my health insurance is going from $560 a month to $910 a month. And that's with a $3000 deductible PLUS a 30% co-pay. Thanks Obama. Now I can't even hope to keep the change!

You're lucky. Ours more than doubled for next year. We have paid more out of pocket, non-covered medical expenses this year except for when we got our kid braces. We also made more money this year so I fully expect to pay a penalty for getting too much of a subsidy. I am really hoping that my wife gets moved from 25 hour but really working over 30 hours a week, to an actual 30 hour a week position where she can get 3/4 benefits.

Well bubblegum, they want to control 401k stuff now...

30 years later our retirement will be gone because of them just like SS.

Same story here except it happened last year at this time. My insurance went from $485/month to $675. So I went with a very cheap high deductible plan and opened a heath savings account with the hope that nothing major will happen until I have enough in the account to cover the large deductible. Damn good thing Obama care made everything so affordable.

My thread would have been
Don't go to the doctor or need insurance, what should my next gun be?
I haven;t gone to a doctor but for a employment exam or maybe a CDL exam in about 20 years
All they do is tell you something is wrong and take these pills
Although self sufficiency seems noble, what will be the reality if you are overcome by some malady that not only requires initial surgery and care, but also expensive after care? In addition to the likely loss of income, how will you pay the medical bills and still keep a roof over your head as well as feed your wife, children, and yourself? Perhaps it's something that you've planned on and self insurance is a viable option for you. Just remember that not everyone is in the same situation.

The point of my original post is that O-Care subsidies did not cover the costs of payouts and the rest of us are paying the price. I'm surprised that this isn't a political argument over subsidy funding. We were warned that costs would skyrocket, and the party in majority at the time will take the heat for lock of funding. Would have expect this to become a huge issue during this election cycle but haven't heard a peep yet.

I read that only 8 million people have signed up for Obamacare. Hundreds of millions (200 million alone in Oregon for their failed website) spent, prices and deductibles driven up for everyone by this miserable program. All for 8 million people? And some of them already had insurance but had to sign up on the exchanges to get the subsidy. I wonder how many people this program truly helped?

And the lie about "keep you doctor"? Ha ha ha...

This is exactly what I am going to do. I am retiring at the end of the year. Grabbing my survivor's social security benefits (it is a scandal that the approximately 200,000 my husband paid into social security would be gone if I did not claim the benefit) and just signed up for Obamacare today. I was notified last week my current policy (which has a high deductible) was going up from $470 to $635 in January. Now
I will be paying $293 for the same policy.

I am tired of paying taxes through the nose and getting nothing for my money. Now I will. I think all the makers should become takers and let's see how the socialists deal with that.

I don't see it so much as getting on the dole as I do getting something out of all the taxes I've paid over the years.
For the record, that $200k from your husband has probably all gone to my younger brother who faked a disability 20yrs ago, smokes pot all day while tending his rather elaborate grow operation in the back bedroom of the house he rents.

Yep, all these people who should not be getting help from the government, especially from retirement funds....any wonder why SS is in trouble?

Ditto with my budget. Had to get Obi care, went from 300 out of our pocket to over 500 and a 12,000 dollar deductible. Had to have at CT scan and another Copley of test and procedures to rule out bladder cancer...now I owe about 6k. Total crap...all in network and all pre approved but that isn't the point of their plan. The point is I pay for those who can't afford ins. Redistribution of wealth.

Brutus Out

Can we still have a heath savings account with a plan bought through the Oregon exchange?
Good question. I'm seeing that some plans say that they are eligible, while others do not. With tax laws changing so fast, probably best to ask your tax attorney or accountant about that one. I would suspect that many here are also becoming aware of the premium increases and shopping for other plans. Hopefully, someone on this forum can shed some light on this, but as usual, advice given on a forum is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Sounds like you are under the same type plan as us, went from about 440 to 835 I was like oh Sheit ..............! But that happened to us last year. See the people that are not complaining are either on welfare, or are gov employees. Its also why I now equally despise Republicans whom could have worked to remove it this year and didnt. insert ( cuss :mad: words here ).
Anyone thinks we have Replica's are not as bad as the Dems need to take a closer look.
Gees lately we cant even look to lobbys that we pay to support. ok blood pressure going up going to go work. Sad when work lowers ones blood pressure compared to what the government is doing to help ?
