Short-term: "big insurance" greased the poli's pockets so they could have a "captive market" and bend everyone over... crony capitalism at its finest.

Long-term: the socialist friks in government want TOTAL control over everyone and there's fewer "levers" better than a person's healthcare, so they sold the rope to the "capitalist" they plan to hang them with... in the end.

The ACA was shystered through with "reconciliation", and NOT the customary legislative process. Harry Reid is as slimy as they get, don't forget the he also pulled the "nuclear option" to get by the 60 vote requirement on the Senate.

I know a few people who are going this route. They don't pay the penalty either, as the penalty can only be accessed to your refund. Their taxes have been set up to get little, to no refund at the end of the year. The IRS will hold back the amount of the fee from any future tax refunds. There are no liens, levies, or criminal penalties for failing to pay the fee. Live free not enslaved.

Idiots didn't realize and still don't realize that "health insurance" does NOT equal "health care".

On top of the now 6 week wait to see my doctor from before when it was same week appointments.


Yup, go on the government dole and get free care, subsidies, tax credits, food stamps.

Then anything you earn off the record will allow you to spend that on your new TV, guns, ammo etc.

This is exactly what I am going to do. I am retiring at the end of the year. Grabbing my survivor's social security benefits (it is a scandal that the approximately 200,000 my husband paid into social security would be gone if I did not claim the benefit) and just signed up for Obamacare today. I was notified last week my current policy (which has a high deductible) was going up from $470 to $635 in January. Now
I will be paying $293 for the same policy.

I am tired of paying taxes through the nose and getting nothing for my money. Now I will. I think all the makers should become takers and let's see how the socialists deal with that.

I don't see it so much as getting on the dole as I do getting something out of all the taxes I've paid over the years.

lol That's like living in the PNW and saying you don't need fire insurance on your home.
Only fools believe that, or those in the "if you ain't got nothin you ain't got nothin to lose" crowd.
Or those in the "leach" group that runs to ER for every little thing, running up the cost for all of us. My friend is like that. Took her adult daughter to ER for a sore throat at 10pm rather than going to a walk in clinic before 5. Same with her husband when he sprained his knee. Rough & tough farmer couldn't wait till the next morning when the clinic was open. American Users passing the cost on to someone else (all of us).

Health is unpredictable. Accidents happen. So does illness. I have worked all my life to live my dream & build my asset base. Lived healthy - clean air & water, no drugs no cigs - to be the 1st centenarian in my family. Good longevity.
I'm now 6 1/2 yrs into fighting rare thymic cancer since 53. Misdiagnosed the first 3 as 'arthritis pain'. Just crossed the million dollar mark in (gross) medical bills since 1.2012. My cost? Medical insurance.
I still have my savings, my home in the mountains, my horses, all of which have been an incredible boost to my healing. And I'm receiving the best care.
Without insurance, I would have lost everything by now and be sleeping in a cardboard box under the bridge. Talk about unhealthy life threatening stress...

HSA's are good, but you still need at least Catastrophic coverage.

One of the dirty secrets is the SS system is COUNTING on people not living long enough to claim their benefits.
