Do your research in choosing a "free" state. When I moved to Wash. 35 years ago, it was still such. It no longer is.

HOWEVER: Mrs. Merkt and I were visiting in NYC a couple of weeks ago and compared to there, Wash. is my paradise.

And nope, they didn't work here, either. Banning our handguns back in 1997 - legally-owned for target shooting purposes, BTW - gave rise to an instant upward climb in handgun crime for no obvious reason, to an all-time high in 2014.

It's now almost the end of 2022, and they STILL haven't figured out how banning legal-owned handguns 'engendered' the gun-crime hike.

BTW, I shoot around three times a week, sometimes four - take a look at my vids on YouTube - tac's guns.
