I am learning about ammunition
I was looking at some 308 amo and it had a Green tip - also mentioned something about Steel sore I believe

IS there a color code for different types of bullets?
Green Tip means:
Red Tip means something else.

Or is it just that company's version of some polymer they use on the tip

Thanks

Not to seem dense -
But are you referring to "the 308 Green Tip" equals Steel Core

Or there is a color code and green tip means steel core for everything and red tip means?

Unless you are looking at a non military type ammo. I use Nosler Ballistic tip Hunting bullets in a number of my rifles. The .30 cal versions have a Green tip.

In US military ammo WWII to the present

Red or Orange = tracer

Black = armor piercing

Blue = Incendary

Aluminum = Incendary armor piercing

Green with a White ring = Frangible

Green = 5.56 M855 ball

Green tip with pink ring = Dim tracer for use with night vision goggles

Yes That is what I meant
Not cheap for Gun Clubs to replace them. That is the reason I was told to check ammo with a magnet.
I am told that steel core bullets can be in lotas of different types of bullets ( Even parts of a box can have it) - hence - check all ammo
I JUst never made the connection with Green Tip

Fisherman's sell them. I'd llike to try them sometime. TCGC doesn't allow them for obvious reasons. It would be fun to shoot them out in the woods somewhere, at steel plates, an old car door, etc.
