The way that skiff hit the side of the ship, I think the pirates had issues from the 'incoming' fire. The guys on board the ship doing the shooting could go off duty in the sound knowledge that they had done the right thing that day. I'm just surprised the international shipping community had not done this sooner and saved countless millions of dollars and a few (innocent) lives.

I have to say though, those pirates have a pretty large set. In all honesty, would you dash through open water towards a target that could potentially shoot back in a bid to try hijack it? I sure as hell would not. I think that video proves a point. One day, you might just not make it home and no one will know where your corpse is! I also wonder how many times that scenario is playing out per month over there? Do it enough times and they run out of idiots to throw at you I guess.

In my experience, there is an unending supply of idiots. All you can do is keep the population in check thru attrition.

The ones sending the idiots out don't care what happens to them, plenty more where they came from.
I believe insurance reasons and differing countries policies on armed crew kept them from shooting back.
Once out in international waters though a small boat could meet them and escort them through the idiot zone.
I bet it's a lucrative gig to escort ships through dangerous waters these days.
You have the high ground and have good cover, almost like a zombie kill everything that moves game.
I would still want at least an m240 to keep them far enough away to stop them getting into rpg range.
An M2 would kinda make it a short fight.
That probably goes on a lot more than the public knows about.

i don't think killing someone is fun. However I compare pirates to a infection. If you don't kill the infection it continues spread and be a problem.
How does protecting a ship you are on differ from protecting your home and your life? As I am likely to be a victim of kidnapping by being on the ship I would have no problem protecting myself or my ship since my job is as a security guard.
A laughing matter no. But I will do it.

You're damned right it's awesome and cool! I think anything that removes human garbage like these pirates is awesome and cool! I have ZERO tolerance for scum like this, whether in East African waters or right in my own back yard.
